I encountered a bug which drives me insane. Sometimes, maybe once a week, the following occurs:

1) I leave an active app (which is in a folder) with a tap on the Home button
2) I am in the folder
3) I can't open another app in the folder. I touch the icons but nothing happens. I tap the Home button to leave the folder.
4) I am now on the Home screen, but I am not able to open another app (not Mail / Safari)
5) The Mail / Safari app is greyed out
6) Nothing works anymore, neither the Home button nor the Control Center. iOS is frozen.
7) I have to reboot the phone.

It happened to me on my 6s with iOS 11.0, 11.0.1 and 11.1. Every time I made a clean install. It didn't help. Now I'm on my 8 Plus and I encounter this bug every week at least once.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue and found a resolution?

I once was able to make a screenshot (this was the only thing that worked). Mail wasn't active before, it was "killed".

So this only happens if you are using the files app? Sorry, I see now that it happens when you are in an app folder with multiple apps stored there

reset network settings and disable automatic app store updates, at least it solves it for me (temporary, as it may come back once an ios update arrives).

This is driving me mad for years now.

I have filed many bug reports for various ios versions over that time regarding this, because if this happens and you don‘t recognize it immediately also notification delivery is affected and with that as a side effect set alarm clocks do not trigger in worst case.

I was a couple of times late for work, not understanding why I missed the alarm and for sure (if you manage to get pass the lockscreen) in all that occasions apps were not launchable, but stay greyed out once you touch the icon, forcing a hard reboot.

Hi, I also experience that starting this year. But it's not on a specific app. It is intermittent and I didn't use the app prior for it to turn "dimed out".
