I assume it’s a bug. I’m guessing next iteration of iOS 12 will fix.

Since release of the 12.1.2 Update i have huge sound problems with my XS.
After some time of use my phone doesn't play any sound like notification, ringtine, music, video or alarm clock.
When i reboot the phone it's working properly until some hours of use, sometimes 1-2 hours and sometimes several days.
I had checked all things i can find, like DND mode, headpone mode, possible bluetooth connections to a speaker at my home, nothing helped.
Then i restored my phone with Itunes completely (full firmware) with and without backups (iCloud and iTunes). Nothing helped.
After this, the support replaced my XS. They thought of a possible hardware issue.

Some days ago i got my new XS, and now?!?! Same sound issues again....
Because of my Apple and IT experience i managed to create an iPhone Logfile with the Apple Configurator Utility (mac AppStore) which shows some real error codes related to the speaker software library included in iOS.
After a long call with the support again, i could upload some files to them for finding a solution.
Later they confirmed that this seems to be a software issue.

All this started with my Update from 12.1.1 to 12.1.2 second version on my replaced device.
Before this i had never any issue like this!

As a software developer i know, that it's hard to maintain an overview of big software libraries.
But it should be possible, to maintain a essential function of a phone.
Until then, i have a expensive phone, which i can't rely on.

This has been, by far, the most disgusting mess of a mobile operating system I've ever had on an iPhone.

Locations services are completely shot. I have to either disable and enable location services to even check my weather, depending on the day. Raise to wake just quit working the other day requiring me to eventually restart after resorting to the tap to wake function (not a huge deal but my muscle memory on using RTW is so ingrained that it became a real issue).

Bluetooth has also been an issue. AirPods refused to automatically connect like they always have. Ended up having to forget and pair them again to get a connection. Eventually I had to swap them out at the gym the other night because only the left one would play anything. Both were showing in the Battery widget but no matter what I did I couldn't get both to play. My $19.99 Avantree Joggers that I've had for almost two years connected and played beautifully. Also, signal strength appears to be affected. If I put my phone in my pocket while playing music on my home speakers it will start cutting out. Even standing between the speakers and the phone seems to cause issues.

The biggest issue has been Messages. My group conversations were being split between iMessage and text message contacts. Now I know it's normal for someone using a non-iOS device to show up in their own conversation when replying to a group message but this was different. I would get a separate iMessage conversation for each iPhone user with no content except "so and so has joined/left the conversation" six or seven times at the top. The picture would be blank and there'd be no name under where it should be. When this happened, no messages would send even when the "send as text message" option was selected after iMessage failed. This was a major issue as the holidays were the first time I got to meet my niece and there were a lot of pictures being sent every which way.

I ended up doing a reset all settings which fixed the Messages issue (for now) but everything else is annoyingly persisting. This all started shortly after upgrading to the XS and I sincerely hope this is a software issue and my phone isn't borked because Verizon's return policies are crap and my X (which I had zero issues with over the year+ I used it) is long gone in their trade-in system.

I'd hold my tongue if this was a beta release but come on, Apple.

Edit 1: Completely forgot about this one. There's so much crap I can't even remember everything at once. Keychain is completely broken. All of my stored credentials are gone and it doesn't offer to save anything. I've toggled it on and off several times with no change. Lucky for me I use 1Password as a backup. Back for Edit 2 shortly, I'm sure.

    Edit 2: Also, this:

    123.jpg

Edit 3: I'm going to see how the 12.1.3 beta treats me. Can't imagine it could be much worse than it already is. 1 day remaining on the download.

Wow. Sounds like something more is at work than a bad release. Those are some major problems.

Yeah it's pretty abysmal. I'm pro-Apple but this is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I considered making a Genius Bar appointment but from everything I've read here, it seems a hardware swap isn't the answer and there isn't jack to be done by Apple outside of that.

Still might not be a bad idea. They may have some solutions. I assume you've done a clean install?

No, not yet. I'm going to give the beta a chance first. Never in my history of iPhones have I ever had to press the red button and start from scratch due to performance issues.

I hear you. Painful process to do, too. Aside from my nearly complete system freeze yesterday, I've had no issues. Would love to hear from an Apple engineer one day as to what causes issues like your's to occur on some devices and not others. I know they'll say "system configuration", "device age", etc..., but I'd like to hear it about a particular device not in general. In some cases, perhaps yours, it might be something like "defective A12 chip" or "bad solder on motherboard component" or something hardware-related like that.

I'm on 12.1.3 beta 2 as of this afternoon but I'm still at work for a couple of hours so haven't really had a chance to explore. I can confirm that upgrading to the beta did fix the keychain issue though.

This is normal. Your "current location" is probably using a weather station closer to you than the one you get when you just type in the town name.

I'm in Miami, FL and "Current location" at my house and my manually entered "Miami, FL" can differ by 3 degrees at times.

My battery is draining bad. I want to try reset all settings. It’s been years since I had to do this will it get rid of my passwords to different apps? I hope not because I never save my passwords and I don’t remember most and them I don’t want to reset passwords to all my apps I’ve downloaded.

Interesting... I've not had any issues with using my iPhone hotspot for my iPad or MacBook Pro, and I use it 3-4 times each week.

Further update: When I said it fixed my Keychain issue, I meant that Keychain was again offering to remember passwords. All of my previous entries are still missing which means I got an opportunity to log in to everything relevant I had in 1Password and rebuild my Keychain. A lot of passwords were reset. My battery was destroyed.

Bluetooth appears to be fine, although I haven't tested my AirPods or my soundbar (Apple Watch and car stereo have been good). Weather is loading normally and I got a "Parked Car" alert this morning so location services seem to be good. Raise to wake has been 100%. Messages look as they should.

Verdict: Something got seriously borked when I updated to 12.1.2. This has never happened to me but damn was it frustrating. Especially after having just returned a couple of HomePods because of how bad the experience was. For the first time in years I was considering looking elsewhere.

    TLDR: I like 12.1.3 beta 2.

Have you tried forgetting the specific network and entering again? Maybe restart your device as well, also if you have other devices check if they also have the same problem.

I have an iPhone 6s Plus I’ve had a few years I’m still on iOS 12.0. My battery drains fast since update to iOS 12 my battery health is at 85%. I tried every suggestion. I forgot about the $29 battery replacement and now it too late. I keep getting pop-up to update to iOS 12.1.2. Should I update to this or will it make my battery even worse? For all you techies out there please advise. TIA

Well, 85% isn't really all that good, so that's likely factoring into it all. You can try to see if you might be able to get a battery replacement now for $49, but it's hard to say if Apple will do it if the battery is at 80% capacity or above that.

At this point since you are already having issues it seems, you might as well upgrade and see if that makes a difference.

Ok thanks. I also have that problem where the battery percentage jumps all over the place. It will be at 50% then I either reset or power button and home button soft reset then battery percentage will be at 80% only to use 5min back down to 50% strange. I actually had good battery life until I updated to 12.0. I’m nervous to update to iOS 12.1.2 don’t really want to add dropping Wi-Fi and data to the mix especially if Apple won’t replace my battery. Ugh I hate paying $20 more I just lost my job so that’s a lot for me.

There is no CVE listed on Apple's website either, so even if you wanted to, you couldn't check.
    https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201222

    "iOS 12.1.2
This update has no published CVE entries."

Apple's becoming 'hush-hush..." I translate that to "Apple knows what's been fixed, just choose not to discus it"

Or it just means there were no particular security related fixes/changes in the update.
