    And "g" means what, exactly?

The letter specifies the amount of times it took to pass QA. So "a" means first try, "g" means 7 trips total.

Why is it bad? This could mean that it was more validated and its more stable

    Good lord, a "g" build.

    Hard pass.

That's the same thing some people said of the 12.3 beta where Safari kept crashing and the Music app would stop responding.

Wasn't true then, not true now.

Probably focusing on nailing down support for devices that will not be supported beginning with iOS 13. Also probably support for Apple Card that isn't visible yet.

I think it's unexpected to think that all iOS12 dev stops in May when iOS13 won't be publicly released until September.

Was it really? I was expecting 12.4 because no update until September just didn‘t seem realistic to me.

The way I look at this is this: Apple doesn’t release a beta until it’s reasonably sure it’s not going to blow up phones. I don’t care if the build is “z” so long as it’s good enough to release.

Hahaha, did you try iOS 9.0 beta 1?

The device I installed it on got so hot even sitting on a desk unused that I felt a need to put it in the fridge on multiple occasions.

I have the same question about the beta lettering (a,b,c, etc.). Does a “g” variant means that they worked on the same build through “a-f”, so it actually had more work put into it and therefore is more cooked/stable? Or does it mean that it was so bad that they had to fix it to a working state as many times, so 6 in this case? Basically, is an “a” build better than “g” or vice versa?

No one can say. One could argue it's a broken mess and probably only has bandaid fixes to pass QA, another could say it should be more stable than "a" due to QA most likely double checking and flagging stuff they'd normally not notice or wave through.

I've seen "f" builds that were subjectively smoother than "a" builds, it all comes down to what is/was broken and how they fixed it. Wouldn't put it past them to just opt for band-aid fixes or scrapping a feature momentarily to get a stable build out (which could in return cause new bugs they ignore for the time being, cause the scrapped functionality will return anyways and eliminate the new bug).

TLDR: The letter probably says little about the quality of the build.

It means they had quality issues with the a-f compiles of this build. While it doesn’t mean the build is bad, it also means that it has had significant quality issues. Take that as you will.

blablabla assumptions about a, f, g, z etc. What I really want to know, what changed / what is new in this beta?
