Hey everyone,

So iOS 16 has been so far very good to my aging iPhone XS. However since 16.3 my phone suddenly feels like my iPhone 6 did when it was on its last legs.

My iPhone XS is now lagging typing all the time. This is in turn causing it to not autocorrect fast enough and I end up with a paragraph of gibberish. It now takes 10 seconds or longer to open an app. Last night in the car with the phone connected to Bluetooth it would take 20-30 seconds to respond when I tried to switch a track. Waiting for the photos app to open takes forever. Sometimes the camera app will freeze trying to take a photo.

It’s becoming a pain to use the device and when iOS 16 first came out it was shockingly smooth and great.

I’m someone who doesn’t believe in upgrading often. It’s a waste of money and over the top consumerism. I like to keep my device until it’s no longer doing its job. However this has conspiracy theory all over it because my device is pristine. Looks brand new and just had apple replace the battery in December.

Any advice on how to fix this? I’ve hard rebooted a few times.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I would only recommend to try restore using ipsw file. I knew it heard like cliché, but in my case, 16.3 is even better than 14.x and 15.x (tried it on iPhone and iPad).

Thanks for your reply. What does this mean? Restore from a backup or totally wipe and start new?

Appreciate it.

I'm running 16.3 on an X and not having any issues like you're describing. I am having some minor bugs that weren't happening on previous releases but it still performs very well. I'd say something is borked with your update and you should restore using iTunes and then setup with your backup. I wouldn't setup as new until you exhaust other options

I’ll try this. Would restoring from iCloud backup be an acceptable option or should I physically backup to my Mac and restore plugged in with the cable? I haven’t plugged my phone into my MacBook in years. Haha.

Thanks again.

What's your battery health? That can also slow down your phone if it's too low.

Weren’t you running iOS 12? When did you update? Or was it on your 6s to keep 3D Touch and I misremembered?

Have you guys messed around with the settings on the iPhone XS/Max to get the most out of it? What are some good settings to modify to get better battery life and smoother experience? I have a XS Max that my dad uses which I love and I want to keep it going as it's aging.

There are some recommendations in YouTube. Some of them are disable Siri, disable background app refresh, disable push in mail, activate notification on selected apps only, disable raise to wake.
