So Call Recording was announced and looks great, but one thing that was unclear - is it only available for Apple Intelligence enabled devices, or is it for all iOS 18? The recordings are transcribed/summarized/stored into the notes app, and those features are only on AI devices...but will users still be able to record calls (with no transcription/summary) on iPhone 14 Pro/iPhone 15 (base)?

I installed the beta on iPhone 14 Pro and don't see any recording options anywhere, so I'm not sure if it just isn't enabled yet or just isn't available on this hardware.

It's hard to tell honestly. Apple has this feature listed on both the general iOS 18 page (with transcription mentioned) and also on the AI page, other AI features are listed exclusively on the AI page. Either way it's not in this beta.

Also, transcribing in notes does not require AI, it works on iPhone 12 and above.

I got the impression that it's exclusive to 15 Pro and newer, but that it wouldn't be available until later in the summer (or whenever Apple Intelligence rolls out). 🤔

Calls recording was available on SE Gen 1 and iPhones before via Jailbrake but it was never battery hugger.
It’s just 48kbps of data via 2G GSM and I guess bitrate even for high quality call we have now is not hardware demanding 😅

This will be pure joke if just recording without AI stuff around will not be available for all iOS18 capable phones :)
