iOS 27 Notifications Will Slide in From Left Side of Your iPhone's Screen

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman today revealed another iOS 27 change: notifications will slide in from the left side of the screen instead of from the top.

In addition, accessing Notification Center on iOS 27 will require swiping down on the top-left corner of the screen. If you swipe down on the Dynamic Island area, a new "Search or Ask" interface tied to the revamped Siri will appear, instead of Notification Center. This change may be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer if the "Search or Ask" interface ends up requiring an iPhone model with Apple Intelligence.

Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on Monday, and the first developer beta should be available on the same day. A public beta typically follows in July, and the update should be widely released in September.

It has been that way ever since iOS 11 and iPhone X

Yes, but right now you can also swipe down from the middle (Dynamic Island area). Going forward, a middle swipe will start Siri, and to get Notification Center you can only swipe on the left side.

I welcome changes to how Notification Center is displayed on iOS. It has often bothered me that the display doesn't stay awake while I'm reviewing notifications. Especially if I open a notification stack, it sometimes takes time to read through them to decide if I want to take action on any.

I also would like quick actions to be able to create a Reminder from a notification as a standard iOS action (swipe left to Clear, swipe right to add to Reminders). This would make Notification Center actually useful - rather than just a dumping ground for notifications.

Yes, but right now you can also swipe down from the middle (Dynamic Island area). Going forward, a middle swipe will start Siri, and to get Notification Center you can only swipe on the left side.

That never works for me. If I swipe down from the middle, the Dynamic Island just bulges briefly. I have to pull down from the left of the Dynamic Island to get the Notification Center.

I think we are way beyond the time that things were designed, or changes were made, in Apple operating systems for an actual purpose. It's change for changes sake these day. In fact it's not just Apple. Too many apps move things around update after update for no real reason other than it looks different, which makes things hard to find or use.

I just wish they'd bring back pulling down new notifications to fully dismiss them. They took that away from us umpteen years ago, and now clearing a notification requires swiping it down, pulling down Notification Center, then swiping away the notification again. What a hassle and unnecessarily complicated.
