I just don't get it... iOS7 is better in all facets across the board. I can't think of 1 single thing that is better in iOS6. The only thing that is subjective are the icons, but even those are better now after the 7.1 update.

iOS 7 runs like crap on iPad 3... Especially the disgusting transparent effect on iPad 3... It just like ewwwww..., the keyboard looks like crap too..

iOS 6 runs awesome on iPad 3... iOS 7'in other hand is just mehhhh... at best...

Except iOS6 does not perform better. Where are you getting this from?

except it does. not all of us can afford to buy an iPhone 5, and iPad 4, and the next year buy an iPhone 5s and iPad air. some people using older a5, a5x, and a6 devices would rather have a better perfuming os...

Because the iPad 3 is an old piece of hardware. Of course newer operating systems will run slower on older devices.

Just upgrade to iOS 7. There is no reason you should stick with iOS 6 in the first place. You're just being selfish, that's all.

You are not making sense at all. Why would you upgrade to something that will slow down your device considerably? Why would you do that? Or you mean I should throw my iPad 3 to trash and upgrade to iPad 4 or newer?

Also, iPad 3 us not software. It is not old as well.

you aren't helping your story much, and most people won't take you seriously saying an iPad 3 is an "OLD piece of SOFTWARE"...

also, im not being selfish, apple is. how am i, a 15 year old who works all summer to buy my idevices and macs being selfish? i mean its not like billionaire apple is selfish or anything. nooooo....

I guess you decided to ignore the fact that you can easily turn off the transparency in order to make your point which is a fail.

Turn of transparency will only makes looks even uglier.... I hate the solid back background on notification centre, milk white control centre...just plain uglier...

Turn off transparency isn't really helping improve iPad 3 performance. It just crap... I know because I had one...the performance is even worse than iPad mini first gen.

P.S. The point is how iOS 7 looks on iPad 3... The point is iOS 7 doesn't run well on iPad 3 when you comparing with iOS 6.

So 3 people are angry in here because they upgraded to iOS7 and their iPhone 3G ran slow?

I think I'm done here.

There is the reason.

God... Stop just stop... iPad 3 is not old... iOS 7 runs terrible on this devices. Now answer me: why should people upgrade to iOS 7 knowing it gonna slow their devices down? Why?

A billion dollar company cannot make a OS run half decent on a devices merely 2.5 years old? Heck... You seriously except people upgrade their iOS device annually or biannually?

I like iPad mini with retina display, but I want iOS 6. But do I have choice? Most people buying new iPhones and iPad are going for the hardware and ecosystem, but necessary means they like iOS 7.

I brought 2 iPad mini (wifi and wifi+LTE) and discounted iPad 4, not because i like iOS 7, but because i like the hardware and app runs on it.

Seems to me a lot of people who don't like iOS 7 assume most everyone else feels the same way and would downgrade to iOS 6 if they could. Just curious, is there a Windows or Android phone that allows users to install whatever OS they want (without the equivalent of jailbreaking)? And I'm talking specifically about the OS, not a UI "theme".

Why should people update just because other people think they should? You go ahead, and other people can make up their mind for their own reasons (which they don't have to explain or justify to anyone else) too. It's everybody's own business.

To be fair iOS 6 didn't run great on 3rd gen iPad. Hence why we got 4th gen like 7 months later.

I never said it was right or wrong, just that it is what it is. If someone wants to get a lawyer and sue Apple over it (or their software TOC in general) knock your socks off.

Has Apple ever done this with iOS? They would probably argue they still are supporting iOS 6 because devices that can't run iOS 7 have received updates.
These are all only further examples of why they should be doing it with iOS.

So people should upgrade to iOS 7 already...or they shouldn't because clearly there's admission in that statement that it can perform worse on some devices? Yeah...

Other than the rare framerate hiccup, iOS7.1 runs about as well as iOS6 on my iPad 3. From a pure performance standpoint, I don't have any complaints with it.

Though admittedly when you first play with it after installing it (or rebooting your iPad), it does run a little chunkity for a bit, which iOS6 didn't do.

You just unlock the bootloader and root the phone...it is merely get you privileges to system root directory...which isn't jail breaking at all. Yes, it involves hack... But not to the degree of jailbreak.

Once you die that, you can just go install whatever version of Android you wish to...

I do not know about Windows Phone.

The point is downgrade is possible on all Android devices. Downgrade is impossible for all iDevices after A5 even with jailbreak...

I am totally with Apple on this decision. Why people haven't upgraded to 7 is beyond me... iOS 6's design got old. People are scared because the icons change. They're just icons people! Look at all the new features you get! So picky.

Because iOS7 icons look like something a 2 year old would crayon while the older gen icons are classy elegant, and refiined depictions

Performance performance performance performance performance performance performance performance! Is there a problem with iOS 7 users? Get it into you head people PERFORMANCE!

iOS 6 never ran particularly well on my 4S, but that may have just been my installation.

I've seen this same argument for XP, Vista, post-brushed metal OS X, a few Linux distros, and at least one Android ROM. I think the only reason I haven't seen the argument applied to any other OS's is because I haven't payed enough attention to discussions involving those.

No...

Need to say that... OEM manufactures aren't throwing all preventative measure like Apple to make downgrade impossible. But when you do unlock the boot loader, you loss the warranty. However, outside warranty, manufacture does not care what you do.

Apple on other hand simply lock down the device entirely without way out.

Just need to point out the difference

Except you don't own the software you license it from Apple and their terms and conditions state that they can make future updates at their discretion.

https://www.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/ios6.pdf
Apple, at its discretion, may make available future iOS Software Updates for your iOS Device. The iOS Software Updates, if any, may not necessarily include all existing software features or new features that Apple releases for newer or other models of iOS Devices.

So iOS 7 capable device owners can stay on iOS 6 but I don't see anywhere where Apple would be legally required to support it.
