I'm not sure if this is an issue or working as intended. Hopefully the former. I just set up my ATV2 with iOS5 and tried airplay mirroring with a couple apps. The problem is it only takes up 1/4 of my screen and only in the upper left hand corner. Is anyone else experiencing this? Even the app layout screen looks this way.

The only reason I can think of this happening is due to the fact I have it hooked up to an older TV that can only do 1080i/480p (480p for ATV2).

    Any ideas??

Apps have to specifically written to mirror in 720p like Real Racing HD 2 or else they will mirror in 4:3 (just about everything else I've tried). Maybe we can get a list going of which games mirror in 720p.

Is the reason for this only working on the iPad2 just an Apple decision OR it is difference in processing power for the iPad 1? I figure it's probably both, but if you had to venture a guess, wouldn't you think it would be technically possible on the iPad 1?

Nobody can give you a 100% accurate answer or they'd likely be fired... However it doesn't really matter given Apple has made their decision.

For looking at what might be possible (on the iPad v1.0) you could scan forms where unlockers tend to congregate... I'm sure if anyone has any benchmarks on iPad streaming 1080p they would.

What you'll likely find is SOME video @ 1080p files stream fine while others don't work so well... and if that is the case Apple would have to err on the conservative side and simply not offer it to iPad v1.0 lest some sue happy lawyer files yet another class action lawsuit...

Seems like a processor decision as at the moment only devices with A5 chip can do mirroring (iPad 2 & iPhone 4S)
