I have been playing with the Air for a few hours and this is the first thing that's stood out to me, the stereo speakers. I used to get a headache just listening to music or anything for more than a few minutes on my old iPad. Not with these speakers they're a huge improvement, playing some FLAC/Apple lossless rap music and the frame is vibrating. :p lol

They are excellent. End of story. Anyone saying otherwise has broken ears. I'm really pleased.

They are certainly better and you do get some sense of bass now than on previous models.

Shame they couldn't align them in some way like the HTC one so you get more stereo sound rather than being down just one side. Other than that I'm very happy with the speakers

Who says they are worse? Coming from an ipad 4, i can say that the ones on the air are significantly better. On top of it, you get stereo!

Some effects sound different, the key click, lock, camera shutter.
IMO out of the box they sounded cheaper or worse on the Air less bass, different tone , hard to describe.

Music does not sound worse, but is different.

I think the Air speakers may reveal more treble.

Yeah, I think they sound cheap too. I can't really explain it. They're not amazing, but I only have my iPhone to compare it to. Idk how bad the speakers were on the last generation.

As a music producer the quality is good but the location is laughable . Your hands end up covering the speakers anyway

In portrait mode, the sound appears to me to be too confined and one sided so to speak. It sounds much better in landscape mode.

There may be defective units. I was at Apple yesterday playing with demos. I tried the speakers on one. It was tinny and full of static. Maybe just a bum unit. I didn't check on other iPad Air demos. I was not there to purchase.

Sound is excellent unless you have the speakers buried in your chest area.

This also may be one reason the tap sounds different. I think Apple must have optimized the sound with some open area and this area wound support a hollow sounding tap.
