I haven't seen this posted yet, sorry if it's duplicate.

Celebrity Cruises is using the iPad as a Menu in of the restaurants of it's new ship 'Eclipse'. This along with their new iLounge concept with Apple computers and iPods. Apple's dabbling in all sorts of venues.

Interesting but it's a gimmick. Unless there's some sort of menu to kitchen functionality, it's just neat but useless. However, it is possible there is a huge cost in changing menues and it could be why restaurants do not do it often. perhaps there's a market there.

From what I heard (on the Royal Caribbean earnings call webcast), selecting an item on the menu brings up a picture of it, from there you can select the item. Whether it goes back to the Kitchen from there, I don't know, but I do know the new ships have very good WiFi coverage.

I guess I'll have to take one for the team and take a cruise to find out.:D

This could be a good move for the restaurants. Maybe it could cut down on the waiter/waitress getting your order wrong. Maybe.....
And they could change menu items, prices, and list specials very easily.
As long as you don't drop the menu....

I mentioned this in another thread but I could totally see waitresses at some point in the future taking orders on the iPad and electronically sending orders to the kitchen.

Or, the customer electronically sending the order to the kitchen.
Or, cust sending order, then someone calling your number when your order is ready and you picking it up. Would do away with waiters/waitresses in some instances.
Kind of like the Full Service Gas Stations went away over the years.

There's a video out that shows a restaurant using an iPad to take orders, send the orders wirelessly, and then completing the transaction using a credit card.

And with the iPad handling the order, they can just be hot, dumb blondes with big hooters.

iLounge?

This is relevant to my interests, tell me more.

The BN has no seating anywhere outside the cafe area and that area has minimal seating (buts lots of room). Yeah I know "buy it and get out" lol

The Starbucks like to CRANK the music and freeze you out.

And the libraries don't really condone gabbing lol.

That's pretty neat. There are so many great uses for the iPad. Just need to start selling them for 20 bucks each so we can see them everywhere. :apple:

Very gimmicky and ridiculous. I can't see many restaurants using a $500 tablet that will be dropped in place of a laminated paper menu that's cheap to revise. It's not the menu itself that expensive to change--its the food.
