Engraving equals

No refund. No returns.
Hurts resale value

Enough said.

Did not... kills resale value.

Normally I do personalize electronics (my PC, iPod, etc..) but iPhones and iPads get upgraded to often, lol.

They will take returns. Otherwise they would not sell applecare with it.

Kinda like your girlfriend with a tattoo of her X boyfriends name. You still use it, but you don't like it.

Damn...I guess I've ruined mine then. It's my third iPad

Nope.. I engraved mine to. I will give it to family when I am done with it. Not sure how much it really devalues it, but don't really care either. If it gets stolen, and you can't prove its yours on the spot, then you lost more than resale value.

It isn't a car or a monogrammed shirt. If I saw one with a lame personal quote on it and it was 10-15 bucks cheaper, I'd buy it and get a case. Let's say you'll use it for 2 years and it'll cost you 30 bucks on resale. A lot of people are probably willing to customize something for 15 dollars a year. Not a big deal IMO.

I checked with Apple. You now can return an engraved iPad for full refund within 14 days just as a non-engraved.

What's with all the fear about it. I think it's a nice touch and personalizes it, making it seem less like owning an appliance like a toaster. If you plan to sell, I don't think it's as big a deal as people make out.

I'm glad I did mine.

If i was buying a used iPad, I'd rather pay the extra money to have it without the engraving, than spend the extra money on a case to hide the engraving.

I didn't do it, and it would have been hidden most of the time anyway, but I think it's a cool idea. People are too worried about resale value -- unless you sell and upgrade them every year, you're going to have it for a while and it'll lose most of its value, so why not?

It's going to be my husband's iPad and I had it engraved with his name on it. I'm have no intentions of selling it.

It may kill resale value but not everyone intends to resell theirs. I wouldn't do it but that's just my personal preference.

I was just thinking when I read this... I wouldn't mind getting "Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow." on one.

At the risk of sounding crass, I'd be surprised if that effected resale value too much as well.

I just thought that, even on a hand me down later, putting a name on it would not be appreciated.

I should modify my lock screen wallpaper, though, so I could have my name on that.

Hehe, it would be funny if someone engraved "Android FTW!" on their iPad :D. I think it would be cool if someone engraved "In memory of Steven P Jobs" on their new iPad.

You should engrave "You're a thief and I'm going to hunt you down and kill you."

Ipads stay in the family so no need for resell value, etc.

The Ipad I am inheriting this week is engraved with a personal saying by the owner, but it applies for me as well so it works.

The ipad that was just bought that is replacing it says "Simple is harder than Complex" - Steve Jobs 1955-2011 or something like that.

I don't make decisions based on resale value, but I still don't engrave because I think it takes away from the aesthetics. It's not for me.
