iPad HD is so 11 hours in the future ago... What do you want from iPad 4?

That said... it's an interesting question in some ways. If the rumours are right and we get a Retina display, better camera, improved processor etc with the iPad 3, well, what's left to do? I really struggle to think what might make me upgrade to be honest. A new form factor would be cool but personally I love the existing design and can't really think what you'd do to make it significantly better (other than a weight reduction I guess). Improved SOC is a given but you need software to take advantage of that power so waiting a cycle isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Might just be me of course but I can't think of any must-have addition that I'd say was missing from the line (again, assuming the iPad 3 matched the rumours).

This would be my guess for the iPad 4:
... I'd personally love for it to integrate into a Macbook Air of sorts (like a Transformer Prime) and I think Apple could do it perfectly. I'd also want a pressure sensitive stylus for taking notes, etc as capacitive touchscreen styli just aren't that great (I've tried plenty of 'em)
- 128GB version (doubt we'll see this in the iPad 3)
- Quad-core CPU (the OS just isn't particularly designed for it yet)
- 1.5GB of RAM (doubt it'd go all the way to 2GB, might even stay at 1GB)
- 802.11ac
- Some slightly updated variant of Bluetooth (Bluetooth 4.1, etc)
- Slightly better cameras
- Battery life equal to or slightly better than the iPad 3
- New 30-pin dock connector (smaller; probably will debut w/ the 2012 iPhone first)
- Same Retina display (but perhaps better/more efficient backlight)
- Probably same form-factor (maybe thinner/lighter, no home button)

Overall I think a high clock speed dual-core Cortex A15 will be far more useful than a quad-core Cortex A9, or better yet a high clock quad-core A15... ah, I can see it now
Actually, the OS is very designed for it. It's reasonably easy to take advantage of multiple cores, and you've been able to do so since iOS 3, but iOS 4 introduced GCD which is great, and I think iOS 5 has even more APIs for such things. That aside, many tasks like resource loading benefit from multiple cores.

because the HD moniker was an overused marketing tool from pre-2008 and now it's just tacky.
True, but don't be shock if Apple decides to go with the iPad HD as it is being rumored that they will.
Haha Not to make this about the "mayans" but - the calender is going with 365.25 days = no leap years... So no, 21/12-12 is still doomsday! - And remember, its the day of the galactic alignment, only happens every 26000 year!
