iPad Pro 9.7 no longer syncs iCloud tabs with a MBP on High Sierra

I'm planning to keep my iPad on 10.3.3 for the time being to keep it speedy, meanwhile I recently upgraded my MBP to High Sierra. Now the iPad no longer sees the tabs opened on the MacBook, syncing the other way around seems fine and handoff works without issues.
