iPad Pro Rebooting by Itself—iPad or iOS issue?

The iPad Pro is my first iOS device, so I'm unfamiliar with any potential known issues with it (besides the single one listed in Wikipedia) or longstanding ones associated with iOS 9.

My iPad, only a few days old, has already reboot (I assume it's a reboot—the Apple logo displays, followed by a return to the Home Screen) itself about 5 times.

Is this an issue with some pervasiveness, and is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this?

Is it brand new? Was it updating ?
There are no issues that would cause that unless you were doing an update or were pressing the power button and the home button at the same time.

Apple has awesome support. I'd call them or bring it to the store. If it's brand new you can exhale it for a new one.

Yes, brand new and not updating.

I've already spent such a profound amount of time setting everything up, unless it persists regularly, I'll just go with Apple support for now.

Back it up to your computer with encryption and if you need a new one it will restore exactly the way this one is. App's icons and passwords. (Without encryption no passwords are save, your choice)

I've actually already done an encrypted backup, but being my first iOS device I wasn't aware it can be used for that purpose. So even settings for 3rd party apps will transfer to a new iPad?

I've just done a system reset, but in case the problem should persist and a restore is recommended by Apple next time, it's a huge relief knowing I can do so without repeating all the work I've done over the last few days.

My iPhone 6S Plus does that maybe 2-3x per week. Maybe it could be an OS bug?

It shouldn't. I've been using iOS since day 1, that's not normal. You can either bring it in to Apple to look or do a backup and restore. My Phone 6S Plus has never crashed.

My Pro has done the reboot thing since I've had it. It used to do it a couple of times a week, but after replacing the SIM (it stopped getting LTE service), the reboots are much less often... maybe every other week?

Much like with a desktop OS, can an app be the cause of self-rebooting in iOS? I had tried to make note of what I was doing or at least what app was in the foreground when it occurred, but I've missed it most times.

Never seen my iPad to reboot by itself, IIRC, and I owned everyone (iPad 3 aside). App crash could be software related, but multiple reboots are most probably hardware related

After a few calls and a couple trips to the genius area Apple replaced my IPP.

It shouldn't. I've been using iOS since day 1, that's not normal. You can either bring it in to Apple to look or do a backup and restore. My Phone 6S Plus has never crashed.

Mine has only started doing it in the past couple weeks.

Add me to the list of new iPad Pro owners who have noticed this a couple times a week. I have never had an iPad do anything like this before and my other iPad with the exact same apps continues to function perfectly without any of these random restarts.

My iPad Air did this with alarming frequency right after I bought it in Nov '13. It was an iOS issue that was corrected. I did not get a replacement and it is fine now.

Depending on what the problem is, using a backup might carry it over.
