Maybe. Or you could be in a low signal area.

What is your Modem Firmware version?

You might be able to downgrade to 3.1.3 and see if that helps at all.

Oh. You need to Build a NO_BB IPSW with Redsn0w. Then put your iPhone into Pwned DFU using Redsn0w, and then Restore via iTunes. Then reJailbreak using Redsn0w. You might also need to reflash the iPad baseband.

Before you start trying to jailbreak it without any prior experience (or so it sounds) why don't you try and take it to an Apple store if you have one around you and explain to a Genius the issue that you are having after you updated to iOS 4.2.1.

    Download the latest Redsn0w here.

    Download iOS 4.2.1 here.

    Open Redsn0w.

    Click Extras.

    Click Custom IPSW.

    Select your iOS 4.2.1 IPSW.

Allow Redsn0w to create your new NO_BB IPSW.

Once done, on the Extras section, select Pwned DFU.

Follow the steps to put your phone into Pwned DFU.

    Open iTunes.

Bypass the popup that iTunes tells your to restore your iPhone.

On a Mac: hold the Option key and click Restore in iTunes.

On a PC: hold the Shift key and click restore in iTunes

    Select your new NO_BB IPSW.

Allow iTunes to restore your iPhone.

Set up as new device through iTunes and also on your iPhone.

    Open Redsnow again.

    Select Jailbreak.

Follow the steps to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

Allow Redsn0w to Jailbreak your device.

Select "Install Cydia" and "Install iPad Baseband".

Open Cydia on your device, search for and install Ultrasn0w. Reboot and you should be done!

I am not your slave. I am here to help. Not to be bossed around.

Redsn0w should create that NO_BB IPSW in the same place Redsn0w is, or it could be where the original IPSW is.

When you download Redsn0w you want to save file. Then open it.

Install Cydia first. Then the iPad Baseband.

You need to recreate the NO_BB IPSW using Redsn0w 0.9.6rc16.

Looks like you might be able to restore to stock 4.2.1 if you get it into Pwned DFU using the newer Redsn0w.

Or you might be able to use TinyUmbrella to restore to 4.2.1 by running the TSS server and selecting "Do Not upgrade baseband" and then restoring via iTunes.
