I still have my old at&T iPhone plan going at $20 for data and $10 for my voice plan, so if I buy the new 3G iphone on july 11 and activate, can i use it without having to start a whole new plan, or will there be $10 more bucks be on my bill?

you get a new plan (with the extra $10 on your bill, $15 if you want SMS)

wait you have to pay extra for SMS TEXT too? doesnt it come with the plan like the old iphone

No, the iPhone plan is no longer the same. The first iphone plan was extremely unusual in the mobile world (profit sharing, text included, really cheap data plan). The new iphone gets the same 3g plan as every other phone AT&T sells.

Also, don't worry about no SMS. In September the IM apps will be fully functional will make SMS obsolete.

sorry but just wondering but how did you manage to get $10 voice plan?!

and more importantly how many minutes are there in your voice plan!?

I am on a family plan on at&T everyone else in the plan has regular phones i have the iphone and i have a reasonable amount of minutes nobody on the plan talks that much . :)

oh okay i thought you were on an individual plan for $10 bucks a month ....

Texting isn't included with the data plan this time around. However, this actually works out better for those of us on Family Talk plans, because the unlimited family texting plan now applies to iPhones. Before it didn't.

It's a good bet that your family plan already has the $30 / month unlimited texting, if thats the case, you won't have to purchase any texting.

I'm actually going to be saving $20 / month on my 4 iPhone family talk plan under the new pricing scheme. :-D

Can someone tell me if the only way I can take advantage of Active Sync on the iPhone is to pay $45 per month instead of $30?

That's not true. I used the unlimited family texting plan on my iPhone.
