After updating to 3.0 on my 3G.......I ended up with an extremely sluggish phone.

I haven't jailbroken my phone.

I did a restore also.....and the phone seemed snappy after it.....but after i restored my previous backup in it.......the speed is very slow again.

I dont want to set it up as a new phone, as i will end up losing my old SMS :(

does anyone else has the same problem?

I had this problem with earlier betas (1 and 2)...ended up having to restore as a new phone then. Ever since it's been fine, I didn't think this issue would carry over into the final build though.

dont restore from backup.....

dont restore from backup.....

Exactly. It is a brand new OS (2.2.1 > 3.0) and it is worth it to just start over. I didn't lose any of my contacts/calendars because I have everything synced with Google.

I have my contacts from mobile me......so i am not too concerned for that

same goes for my calender from google

what concerns me is the SMS

Mine certainly isn't slow. If anything, it's faster, so I'm not sure why you're having problems. I didn't wipe my phone or anything either.

It's slow for me. Just a question, is there anyway to save all my text messages? I was thinking about doing a full restore, but I want to keep my texts.

I don't think there is, without restoring the whole backup. It would be good if you could do a selective restore.

finally someone is on the same boat as i am :p

there is a software called phoneview, which costs about 20 $

it lets u save texts........but u cant import it back to ur phone

i wanted something to let my texts be back in phone........but it seems that i am outta luck

could spotlight be indexing all your data? if it works anyway the mac does i would assume this is what is happening. going through all your text messages and emails.

So when I get my 3gs on Friday and plug it in to get all my songs and apps on that phone is it going to be just as slow cus I updated this phone as a backup and not full restore? Sorry I am new to all this.

I never understood why people are so hung up on losing their texts. What the crap is in there that is so important? The only important messages sent to me are emails. Texts are just informal conversations.

that does make sense

i have about 8000 texts and 3 mail accounts on my phone

is the spotlight index a 1 time thing or its a continuous process??

i do my phone banking via texts here in India

also my stock market transactions are done via texts

i have a record of bill payments, etc too

thats the reason i need em

My wife's 3G is very slow after the update, but my old 2G has a noticeable speed increase. Hopefully there will be another solution that doesn't involve deleting all her SMS messages, as she would kill me (not sure why she needs them all, but according to her she does).

How big of a deal is it to save the SMS messages you have? I mean you have already read all of them and if there is any important information just write it down or something. It's definitely worth it to restore and set up as a new phone.

yeah thats the only option i see for now

will write down the important banking / stocks SMS in my diary and then do a restore & set it up as a new one :)

And I strongly SUGGEST that you grow a pair and learn how to live without a couple of text messages.

if u can live without it ........go ahead

i will find my way out and do the needful

there are plenty of helpful people here unlike u
