Since Apple put all the chips into one, is everyone ATT,VZ, and Sprint selling the same phone? Does anyone know?

Seems odd that you woukd not be able to get one phone and use it for any carrier but not sure if each cell carrier locks the phone into them? Curious because someone I know asked if I give them my pre-ordered 5 from ATT if they coukd use it on their VZ network?

There are 3 versions of iPhone 5.

This is different than iPhone 4S which was the same phone across all carriers GSM/CDMA.

The reason it's different is because of different LTE compatibility.

While Verizon/Sprint's iPhone 5 can support GSM roaming it's not the same iPhone 5 as ATT/Canada iPhone 5 or the same phone as the international iPhone 5.
