So I have had my iphone 5 since Oct. and have no had no issues up until a couple of days ago. I will send a iMessage and after I hit send it takes several seconds before it will start to send. Also today I was swiping through the home screens, and when I moved all the way over the search it showed my first home screen but with the search keyboard at the bottom. It took it a couple of seconds and finally went to the search screen. It just seems sluggish in doing some things.

Is there something I can do to fix it? Would something I have done cause it? Any help would be great. I am running 6.1.4 on the AT&T MD639LL/A model. I am not jailbroken.

How much storage do you have remaining? The only thing that really made my phone crawl was when I had less than a GB of storage.

The new android has TRIM function built in. I wonder if iOS has the same.
2gb left seems healthy to me though...

Yea that is what I thought too. I am going to delete some pictures and music and see if it helps.

Did you try resetting it by holding the home and power button until the apple logo appears?

My iPhone has been sluggish for the last two weeks. I did a reboot and it helped. But, I also saw I only had 2GB of space left. After deleting 5GB additional my iPhone doesn't have any issues.

My iPhone 4S does this too and I'm positive it the result of large group message. I'll get 10 text in 2 minutes and sometimes it fine and other times the whole OS gets slow and stuttery. Does things like you described.

Besides this, I noticed that having an unhealthy amount of texts slows the ever living hell out of it.

So what in the world would be causing this? Apple has not done any updates since 6.1.4.

I've got 3gb left but don't delete anything and its very quick as usual. Try switching off and on again see if it helps. I don't think you need to delete things.

No clue, but I did a rest (home+power) as someone mentioned above. So far so good, I hope that's the end of it...

If nothing else helps, then try restoring it. It's a bit of a pain, but that should work.

Having low storage space will not effect the performance of the phone as the storage is flash-based it's not a mechanical drive where the lower the storage space the slower the drive.

Do you have whatsapp installed? It has been lagging quite bad for me, and I am wondering if my phone's slowdown is somehow linked to it.

Yea I deleted some really long conversations in iMessage, and did a hard reset and it seems to be doing much better. Maybe I just had may too much crap going on at one time, and it was trying to hold all that info.

nevertheless with less available space iPhones often perform more sluggish in comparison to when they have more free space, for whatever reason.

I have always been killing apps in background, plus I have tons of storage left on my phone, so I dk if that's the case for me, it really just came out of now where. Kinda curious what exactly does hard rest do? It doesn't clear cache i suppose, as those ghost contacts are still there after a hard rest.
