Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out. I've tried using the back-up stored on my computer and on iCloud to transfer over all my info from my iPhone 5 to my 6. All the apps transfer over. However, I want to have all my photos/videos and saved visual voicemail messages transferred over as well.

The back-up from my computer transferred over all the videos and only 55 of my most recent photos. It did not transfer over any of the voicemail stored on my 5.

The iCloud back-up didn't have any of my photos/videos and did not have my voicemail either.

Is there an option or setting within the iPhone settings to choose whether or not Visual Voicemail is backed up? I believe the photos did not transfer over because I had the Camera Roll option shut off in my iCloud settings.

I have already taken all the videos/photos and copied them to my desktop. So I am really focusing on finding an answer to the Visual Voicemail problem. I'd rather have the voicemail on my phone than getting an extractor and putting it on my computer.

Thank you for any help!

I have AT&T. I've called my voicemail and the only one I have is from 2-3 days ago. The voicemails on my iPhone 5 seem to be on the phone only and are a few months old.

I'm having this same problem; my photos won't sync for some reason. Is your iPhone 5 still on iOS 7? Mine is, so I was just wondering if that is the problem.

My camera roll is checked for syncing but the photos still are not showing up from either my icloud or itunes backups, from my 5s to 6.

Help :(

I lost about 60 visual voicemails, going back several years. It's the first time they haven't transferred in an upgrade. Sucks, but if I had to lose one thing, I guess that would be it.

ETA: my 5 is running iOS 8, and has been since the GM. I had all my VVs on that, only lost them in the switch to the 6.

Yes, my 5 is still on iOS 7. I wonder if that might be a problem. It's very strange how only a fraction of my recent photos will sync over.

I'm going to try updating. I downloaded a backup extractor last night and I can see that my voicemails are in the backups. Apple is going to call me at 12:30pm eastern, so hopefully they will be able to tell me what's going on.

having the same issues with voicemails. at&t chat was able to get visual voicemails to work again on the new iphone 6 but i am not having any luck getting the voicemails to show up on the phone. have erased the phone several times and restored from a backup. every time i go to the voicemail when the phone is finished setting up, it always tries to dial in to the voicemail before asking for a password. after i enter the password, visual voicemail will work but non of the old voicemails show up

That's exactly what is happening with me.

I downloaded a demo version of a back-up extractor last night. My back-ups do have the Visual Voicemails embedded within them. So this is definitely a Phone issue (nothing to do with AT&T). I backed-up my iPhone 5 to iCloud last night and tried restoring the 6 with the iCloud back-up. The 6 is still only downloading a fraction of my pictures from the iCloud back-up. It also isn't showing my voicemails. Very frustrating.

I have a case open with Apple Support right now.

Any luck with Apple Support?

I have the same issue coming from an iPhone 4. I tried the following steps:

  • iPhone 4 (5.1.1) iTunes backup -> iPhone 6 Older than 30 day voicemail missing
  • iPhone 4 (5.1.1) iTunes backup -> iPhone 4 (7.1.2) All voicemail was present
  • iPhone 4 (7.1.2) iTunes backup -> iPhone 6 (8.0.0) Older than 30 day voicemail missing
  • iPhone 4 (7.1.2) iCloud backup -> iPhone 6 (8.0.0) Older than 30 day voicemail missing
  • iPhone 6 (8.0.0 iTunes backup -> iPhone 6 (8.0.0) Older than 30 day voicemail missing

I wonder if there is some incompatibility coming from older iPhones. My iPhone 4 was restored from a backup of my iPhone 2G and I still see voicemails from 2008 present on my 4 right now.

No real updates from Apple Support. I tried the same steps and I'm experiencing the same issues you are. I don't have any voicemail less than 30 days. It's all older than 30 days, that's probably why I can't see them.

Waiting to hear from the engineers at this point. Its definitely an issue with the 6 as I updated my 5 to iOS 8 and the voicemails were still present on my 5.

Glad I seen this thread, same thing has happened to me also.
This is the first the visual voicemails did not transfer over from the restore.
All previous phone upgrades have worked OK.
From my 4s running iOS 8 to the iPhone 6 Plus would not synch over.

Anyone have a fix?

As soon as I updated my phone, it asked for my voicemail password.

I entered it in and nothing happened. Even my greeting has been changed to the default computerized voice greeting.

I had a couple voicemails on there that I was keeping for a reason for sentimental reasons (yes, I pulled the voicemail off the phone and have it saved as an MP3 file).

Any thoughts?

I had the same issue with only voicemail. You can use something like iExplorer to remove your voicemail from your backup. I don't know how to transfer them back to your phone as voicemail, but you could possibly add them to iTunes or just save them on your computer/dropbox/icloud.

i called att and they blamed apple, then apple blamed att

i was only able to get voicemails going back a month

i am not sure but if any new users are restoring iPhone and want older VM's, you may want to mark VM's you want to keep as unheard, there may be a chance those will be stored on ATT server

I don't mean to hijack but I just want to add this in case someone else needs the info- I'm on Sprint and had the same problem when I set up my new phone. Restored backup from iPhone 5 and visual voicemails would not show up. Touch 'voicemail' tab and it wanted to call vm. I am using a Sprint Airave at home which as it turns out wasn't allowing my phone to register on the actual Sprint network and update PRL/profile settings. I went into town where there's a decent Sprint signal and shortly after my voicemail was working properly again.

Hope you AT&T guys get your situation figured out as well. It's one of those little things that you don't realize how much you love it till you don't have it! :)

thankfully you have the mp3 files....

not the same as ATT VM but there is phoneview which saves all texts, vm's + such on a mac, you do have to plug your iPhone into your mac....it's quite a good software, you can do a trial to check it out

Sorry that I have not provided an update, but I have not heard back from Apple Support on this. However, with Apple putting Camera Roll back (which was one of my concerns until I figured out that my older pictures were in Albums), maybe there is a possibility that the new update will address this.

If it doesn't, I'll contact Apple Support again. I have proven to them that the voicemails are stored on the back-ups, it's just that iOS 8 is not displaying them for whatever reason.

Has anyone figured out a fix for this? I just upgraded to 6s plus and am having the same problem

I, too, lost all my voicemails older than 30 days when I upgraded from iPhone 5 to 6S+. Restored from encrypted iTunes backup.

Nothing critical was lost, I think, but I would be interested in a fix.
