    Hello all!

I had the lovely privilege of starting last year's KoP thread, and it's that time of the year again!

As of tonight (9/10), I cannot say for sure whether or not I will be camping out for the 5S... I love the phone, but currently haven't decided if I'm willing to pay the full price for it... I'm still trying to get at&t to budge on my early upgrade date (to get the $450 price instead of $650)... if they don't, I may just wait it out until the 29th (when I'm eligible for the $450 price tag).

I enjoyed hanging out and meeting many of you lovely people last year and sincerely hope to do it again! The new Apple store is amazing and hopefully will handle the crowd much better. Who knows where they'll have us waiting this year (since our backs had been up against the wall of the current store location), but hopefully it goes as smoothly as last year, whether or not I decide to attend! :)

I'm looking to join this year. Can anyone fill me in on how it works? I don't think I can spend the night there because of work, but I plan on getting there around 8 a.m. day of (9/20) when the store opens. Do you think they will have enough that I would still be able to get one? How was it like last year - did they run out?

Here's a brief overview of my experience from last year:
    • Arrived around 8pm on Thursday night. Was initially told to wait outside by Lower Merion Police, but mall security let us queue inside.
    • One thing (that bothers some people) is that all bathroom visits require a mall security guard to escort you
    • By about 7am (give or take), the line was outside of the mall.
    • Prior to the store opening, employees came out and gave index cards with barcodes on them depending on what you wanted (i.e. you would say "black/slate 16GB AT&T" and you would receive a special card)
    • They ran out of many of the various options before the store opened (by options, I mean 16GB Black AT&T was gone first, followed by 16GB for Verizon, and a few other options eventually went). I'm not entirely sure if every option was sold out, but I'm sure most of the 16 & 32 GB options did (at least for Verizon and AT&T, Sprint probably as well).
    • Once they were out of options, employees announced it to those further back in the line- and some would then run to AT&T stores in the mall or Best Buy up by the movie theater.

    Hopefully this helps! :D

Hmm so is the KOP mall the best option in the area? Better than Suburban or Willow Grove?

Suburban definitely has to be the best since there's a Starbucks and other food places that still open overnight. I think it's the less hectic of the 4 (KOP, WG, Walnut).

I did a search for King of Prussia Mall and last year's thread came up so I posted in it!

Anyway, I am interested to see how this works. I am ready for an upgrade.

    ----------

So should I go right to the mall after the Eagles game? Probably get there around 1 AM or so...

    ----------

Is there a particular entry point to that mall? Did you do it last year? How many people were there?

No sorry. I'm a suburban square person but I work that day so I have to go to the dreaded walnut store

What time do the stores actually open on launch days?

    See me there!

I will be going down this year. I've previously never camped out for an iDevice, but have been in the lines a few times the days after release for iPad and iPhones. Figure if I'm gonna wait anyway, may as well be there close to first!

From what is said above, it seems like last year that you would get whatever you wanted if you got there anytime before 2-3am?? I guess I'll plan on getting down there for 1-2am if so.

njn007, I wish you luck with AT&T, but from past experience, you won't be getting your iPhone 5S until the 29th!

I'm also interested to know if the store opened at 8am for the release, or if it opens at its usual time at 10am? Can anyone shed some light?

For the people that were there all night last year, or any other year, what do you take with you? Like some folding chairs? Pillows? haha some games to stay occupado?

I'll be there! Don't know what time though. Any of you guys have ideas? I've never been at an iPhone launch at the store, I've always ordered one online, but Apple conveniently isn't offering pre-orders this year ;)

Willow Grove is nice, but I just feel that the staff and overall environment are better at King of Prussia.

Apple stores will open at 8am (at least at the KoP mall and most other locations). AT&T stores are hit/miss. I know the ones in the KoP mall don't usually open until 10, but I'm not sure if they have different plans for Friday.

    ----------

I would suggest arriving by midnight. Without the option of online pre-orders, I expect a larger crowd at KoP. 4am would be the absolute latest. By about 6/7am last year the line was outside (with availability running out depending on your device preference).

    ----------

I've numbered each of your questions- my personal answers are below- hope they help! :)

    1. That would definitely be a good time range. As I said above, 4am is the latest I'd suggest.
    2. I've actually gotten at&t to make a note on my account (although I have to verify that the note exists this week in person at an at&t store). I'm hoping to be camping at the mall, but for the at&t store instead (since Apple would be unable to see my account notes).
    3. The Apple Store opened at 8am last year for release day.
    4. I took collapsible chairs- just be warned that you cannot take them into the store, so you'd have to either leave them with a trustworthy person or just hope no one takes them while you're in the store! Others also brought laptops and other iDevices for games/entertainment. Many actually watched movies/TV shows.

Hope this helped! You'll definitely enjoy it- it's a rare experience!

    ----------

Since I have gotten at&t to put a "note" on my account about getting me partial upgrade pricing, I will have to go to an at&t Corporate store instead. I'm going to see if either of the at&t stores in the mall can
    (a) validate that the note exists, and
    (b) tell me if either will allow camping (since I don't recall anyone camping at either store last year while heading towards the Apple store)

If neither at&t store is going to be allowing camping (since that requires mall security), I'll probably be camping at an external at&t store that's not at KoP.

OK, so I guess my plan is to go right to the KOP store after the Eagles game. Should be fun.

If I am by myself, people better be nice and let me go pee!

They do- mall security escorted groups up the elevator to the bathrooms last year (or individually, if you ask them).

For anyone wondering- I plan on heading to the mall Wednesday to ask security if they have made official plans for Thursday night- I'll also see if either of the AT&T stores in the mall will be opening at 8 and if they'll be allowing a separate line to camp at one of those two stores.

Hello again, everyone! I am definitely going to be at this event. What time again should I arrive? Is around 4am good? I am going for the Space Grey iPhone 5s, on AT&Ts network, with 16GB of storage! I'm excited! I have my emergency survival backpack ready and everything :D:D:D

Grrrr, so mad at Apple for not offering pre-orders for the 5s. So, looks like I'll be camping out at the KoP store. Unfortunately, I have a prior engagement Thursday evening and so won't be able to get to the store Thursday. I am planning on arriving Friday around 4:30AM or so. Is it reasonable, based on past experiences, to expect that I should be successful in obtaining a white 16GB AT&T 5s if I arrive around 4:30AM? I have a friend that I've somehow convinced to wait with me since my partner thinks I'm cuckoo and doesn't want to get up that early :p The catch is, she can't be convinced to wait at the wee hours like I will be so she plans to arrive at a slightly more reasonable hour, say 5:30-6. Will she be allowed in the mall to wait with me even though I've arrived earlier than her?

Also, the KoP Apple store moved, didn't it?? Where in the mall is it located now?

The at&t employee I spoke to today (I got the chance to go today) said that the store on the second floor (the only "corporate" store in the mall) will open at 8am and *should* have a separate camping line (take that as you will).

    ----------

    See above.

    ----------

Your questions have been numbered and are answered below.

    1. After reading the story on MacRumors about shortages in supply, I wouldn't go any later than 5am... heck even 3am might be a better time.
    2. Goes hand-in-hand with the above answer. Your friend *should* be able to get in, but I'm not sure about getting her to jump the line to join you... that is an iffy issue...
    3. It's moved, but is only about 5 storefronts closer to the Rite Aid than it was before (not really much of a change).

FYI I think I'm doing willow grove because I've actually gotten concrete answers from them and I am positive less people will be there because its not as close to a major highway as kop is. I cite this because major highways bring more people

The turnpike is a pretty major highway. but I agree that it will probably be less crowded than KOP. My hope is that a store like KOP gets more units allocated.

Just wanted to post what I know about willow grove since I will be going there and this is for anyone interested in that:

spoke with apple genius at the store
    - line up by H&M entrance
    - ample supply
    - he can't be quoted on this, but he said you should be fine arriving an hour before just know you'll have to wait

willow grove sounds like the win for me because less people will be there than kop (again, citing the turnpike as a major reason why kop will have more ppl)

good luck all and I'm interested in hearing how your KOP experience turns out!
