Anyone looking to queue at Westfield London? Are the carparks/shops area open at 5am ish? They seem to be open at least till 3am due to films being shown, but no idea if this closes at some point at night, and if it does, where can one queue up. Anyone queue last year for the 5 who can give some nuggets of experience?
I'm thinking of bring there but I'm also unsure of where the line will start, or if there will be provision to stay inside the building... I've had trouble getting back to my car, even after leaving a late film showing! Although, the photos I've seen from the last iPhone launch were so big, I can't see how people could have queued outside. So if anyone can add more detail, that would be great!
Last Year Launch This guy's video is pretty detailed and useful. Only from last years iPhone 5 launch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWOWFmRvaZc Looks like you queue outside until they open up the centre early morning, maybe 4-5ish? I'm going to try order online at 12.01, if not, i'll join the que!
Very useful video, seems fairly organised there! Will also try to order 12.01, failing which it's queueing time!
A queue is forming at the Southern Terrace main door... The line starts just inside the door, by the stairs, (on the right side of the entrance lobby) - the area is otherwise known as The Atrium.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe online orders go live at 12.01 Pacific Time, whereas the store openings are local. If you aren't successful online, you'll be fruitlessly joining the back of a queue at about 8.30am...!
Even though i can't find this online, I have seen somewhere on apples website, or via an email last week that its online time is also 12.01 GMT. Unless this has changed since, but still worth a try at midnight, if not, ill join the que early morning!
Yep, I've just hunted down the email and you are quite right. All the sites I'd been reading emphasised pacific for online / local for store, but unless something has changed, Apple's email clearly states that it'll be 12.01 BST. I suspect Pacific will simply be the time for the USA, regardless of what zone you're in there.
I had heard that they are letting the queue form from 10pm within the store. This came from an Apple employee within the store in Westfield. I guess they will let some in, then reopen the doors early too. Good luck to everyone queuing, hope you get your device of choice.
I can confirm that the queue is now outsides the South Terrace doors, along the wall directly opposites them. We will be held here until around 10-10:30, when we will be escorted inside the building - we will be escorted in pairs. Apple will then provide refreshments from around 05:30 and the store will open shortly after 08:00.
How long is the queue? I'm unsure of the value of joining as Apple don't actually seem to have any of these devices at all!
I just got here and sitting down outside, I am scared that I might not get one (32GB Gold)! There are like 140 people maybe a little more in front of me and more coming now.
Just seen that people who ordered online have to wait till the 7th October......Queue getting bigger, how many iPhone 5s's do you think the store will have today?
The internet is saying most Apple shops have only around 10 gold and white phones and any stock they do have is the gray color. If the queue is long i'll just go to work instead and have to hope somebody else picks one up for testing with. Apple really should offer some pre-order for dev's especially if they are adding new tech like the M7 chip and 64bit.
Westfield Glad I've come to Westfield, queue is curled around inside the shopping centre. Very warm! Very well managed too with plenty of security, plus all the queue is surrounded by barriers. Well done so far Westfield! Only issue is there are about 200 people in front of me! Edit: 90% scalpers though it would seem guys around me seemed very surprised when I said I was only buying one iPhone!
Easily 500 here now, a little concerned stock will be short. Definitely people here for the profiteering, which is unfortunate.
Queued from 12am onwards, Gold sold out in first 2 minutes, hardly any stock. Silver followed suit 15mins later. 80% of the queue were scalpers/resellers. Disaster.
