So with no preorders on the iPhone 5S, who is going to be queuing on the morning of the 20th?

    Lets hope not ;)

It'll make for a quick pickup.

    I don't know yet, maybe...

I did Eldon Square for the 4 and 4S and the queue was long, but I skipped the 5 last year because there seemed so much hype around it and it turned out the queues were insane at the Metro and Eldon Square.

If there was a 5S pre-order then I'd go with that but as there isn't I may well end up at the Metro :)

The queue went mad after around 6:30, I got there about 5:30 and was pretty close to the front, between 6:30 and 7:00 hundreds arrived. By 8:00 when the shop opened the queue snaked up and down the mall.

I just noticed the first bus arrives at 05:48 and the first X66 arrives at the Metrocentre at 06:40, must be what the hordes used to get there on.

Just had a reply from the MetroCentre, believe it or not, they have no information about the procedures for next Friday.

It seemed from the answer they didn't even know there was an event.

I've suggested they make contact with the Apple Store manager and get some information.

Doesn't surprise me. Last year they couldn't give me any details until the day before.

Correction. Just checked back on last years thread and it was the Wednesday before launch they confirmed car park opening times.

I'm banking on it being the same setup as last year. Initial queue outside the Red Mall entrance then they let us inside to queue about 7am

People were queuing inside from about 5:30-6:00 weren't they?

    ----------

As I remember, the big surge happened about 6:30-7:00 and the queue really got long (I think it's when the buses start running to the Metrocentre).

Just checked my tweets from last year and you were closer than me. Looks like they opened the doors to let us inside at 5am

    Gold rush

I think gold will be in short short short supply ! China pre orders is going mad for it. I'm going down Thursday evening to be sure of getting a gold.

I am, probably easier to do. If the initial supply sell out before I order then I might go queue.

I doubt it's worth going much before 5:00 or 5:30.

If the online ordering isn't working at midnight (or has more than a few days for delivery), I'll probably go down for around 5:30.

I think as long as you get there before the first bus arrives it should be OK.

There were lots of unhappy people in the second half of the queue, I was walking down checking the length of the queue when the phones started going out of stock, it was so quick, first all the colours in 16GB, then all the golds, then the grey.

The queue almost halved when the big groups of scalpers walked away, I presume they were all after 16GB handsets.
