OK people, it's about that time. This is the place to post details on what we've learned from mall security and the Apple Store to make our lives easier as we line up on launch day.

    What I know (from security):

    - Property opens at 0500 (i.e. parking lot). Anyone arriving before this time will be escorted off premises.
    - Line will form at Texas de Brazil mall entrance (all other doors will be closed)
    - Mall opens at 0600 (anyone caught running or cutting in line will be escorted off premises)
    - All stores that sell iPhones (8, including Apple Store) will open at 0800
    - Apple Store employees will be issuing electronic and physical reservation codes for in-stock merch on a first come, first serve basis
    - Those with electronic pre-orders will be able to cancel their pre-order (advised you don't do this until you make it in store) once a reservation number is given, so that they can purchase the phone, physically.

    Good luck!

So can we stay in our cars in the parking lot or we can't even come into the mall area until then?

I plan on parking in the Marriott parking lot until they let us park in the main lot. Once they open the lot, you'll be able to park, get out and form the line. :)

He told me that they would ask all cars to leave the mall property until 0500.

Just reconfirmed with Fair Oaks Mall Security: They are holding fast to their "Do not show up on mall property before 0500 or you will be turned away" policy. :)

So, unlike Tyson's, apparently, there will be no camping allowed at Fair Oaks.

You say that the mall opens at 6am... But we can get on the parking lot at 5am to line up outside Texas de Brazil entrance?

EFF fair oaks mall, they acted like that last year.
Tysons Corner is cool this year.
The first 100 people get to stay inside the mall. 100 people here as of 9:30pm Thursday.

Wow. Lots of people here so far. Each of us being turned away by security until 5am. Wait with us in the Marriott parking lot. I'm in the white Acura.

Well. Predictable. They turn everyone away, tell us to park somewhere else until 5, and then decide to let people in early. I was among the first, and now I'm among last. Security chief is being a real stand up guy, "Go to Tyson's. This is why I'd never buy Apple..."

That sucks man. Sorry to hear he was such a douche about it. I was following this thread (thanks for the updates!) and rolled up at 4:54 am, saw the line of about 200 people, and noped out of there.

You could always complain to mall or Apple management if you get the guys name. Not sure anything major would happen, but you could at least get him hassled haha

What a disaster. They sold out of Plus models within 5 minutes. Why? Because the Asian mafia was in force paying cash for multiple phones. There was an Asian girl behind me in line that explained it to me. She had been paid by some guy from Taiwan, along with 100 others, to buy all the iPhones they could. They would then be sold overseas for $2K a piece.

    Unreal.

I kind of hate when that happen when someone comes in and buy alot of phones at one time. I think there should be a limit of 1 or 2 phones per customer., to me it is not fair to the other people in the line that want to get a phone and they get into the store and they say sorry we are sold out.

Briefly thought about making the drive down...read this and glad I didn't it. It'll be a long 2-3 weeks, but I'll just wait my preorder out.

Sorry to spew derogatory comments on Fair Oaks Mall, but this is another launch debacle they EFFED UP, mistreating and mismanaging the parking and queuing.

Seriously go to Tysons Apple next time. Today even if you arrived at the Cava Mezze mall entrance at 1am, you could've had your pick of 6 Plus any color, carrier, and size except for 16GB. They even let the first 130 or so people wait indoors! Tyson's must have received a few hundred 6 Plus iPhones.

This is great info. I swore to myself after this experience that I'll never wait in another line... that is, until the next time, when I'll be going to Tyson's! :)
