Anyone has an idea about the Southdale store and if there is going to be some kinda queue management outside the mall??

I got the iPhone 5 from Southdale on release day 2 years ago. I arrived around 6am I believe and there was probably 50-100 people in line already, at least. The queue line was outside by the movie theatre, and then maybe an hour before the store opening, everyone was escorted into the mall and we were in another queue line all the way to the apple store. They had coffee and snacks and it was super organized. I think I probably left the store around 8:45 - 9 am with the iPhone of my choice. There was probably another couple hundred people behind me, but I think they had plenty of stock. I'm expecting a similar experience tomorrow at Rosedale for myself, which I haven't been to before.

    Oh cool.

The Apple store guy and the mall security said they would open the mall entrance by 5AM. I don't know if they have changed the time this year, based on the previous launch experiences.
Let me ask you a question. Was there a queue outside the mall doors and were the same queue positions maintained when they were escorted in? Or was it like, the doors opened and everyone ran in to get a spot outside the store(in which case trying to hold a spot outside the mall wouldn't make any sense)

Yeah. Basically, the entire line outside was escorted into the mall, and it was roped off like an airport security line all the way through the mall to the store. Apple has had so many launches that they have crowd control down. There won't be any chaos or running through the mall whatsoever. Like I said, it's super organized. It'll be way less stressful than you think, at least that was my experience.

Thats a relief. Thanks again. I plan to go there by 2-3AM. So, I hope to be really ahead in the queue.

I checked out the Rosedale store also. Apparently the mall doors at the Food Court side will be open from 9PM tonight. They at least let you sit inside(but only in the food court area) and keep yourselves warm. The crowd will then be escorted to the store at 7AM.

I might just end up coming to Rosedale myself since we can at least sit in the food court area where there are comfortable chairs and tables.

Right on. I'll probably be at Rosedale around 6am or a tad earlier. Hopefully that's early enough to do the trick. Good luck to everyone.

I have no clue. I'd guess the Mall of America, but not sure. It's a crapshoot. I'm just glad we don't live in NYC or LA. I bet those stores are nuts.

Just talked to my UPS guy who had preordered from Best Buy. He said Best Buy didn't allow preorders on Pluses because they didn't know how many they were going to receive BUT they got their order in today and they DO have Pluses. Might be a place to go because people are thinking that Best Buy doesn't have them.

And fortunately for us, Best Buys are very, very common here :D

I'm thinking of the parking there :(

I am hoping to buy 2 Plus iPhones. Both, sim-free, contract-free. I am counting on them to be unlocked out of the box(which is obviously not advertised). So my best bet on finding full price, possibly unlocked phones, would be at the Apple Store. So Best Buy or any other carrier stores are out of the question for me.

I am leaning towards the Rosedale store

So the Southdale mall security screwed us six ways from Sunday by not letting us camp out until 4:30AM. FML !!!
