Iphone 7/7+ at Costo with BOGO and $225/$400 gift card

From what I can read here, you can get a nice deal on iphone 7 at Costo. The BOGO is available lots of places and I believe needs at least one new activation and one new line to get the $225 gift card. If two new lines, then you get a $400 card. The "free" phone is actually a $650 credit spread across the 24 or 30 month payment term. You pay each month, and then get an equal credit. Oh yea, you also have to be a Direct TV customer. Can get a higher memory phone if you want, but the credit is still $650 (32gb phone).

Seems like a sweet deal, if you can deal with a new phone number. I assume this applies to numbers ported over as that is a "new" line for ATT.

I am thinking to port out my current ATT number to google phone, and then "port it back as a new line". I can live without my phone for a few days.

Thoughts?

I appreciate the comments. But, if someone decided to leave ATT and port out to another carrier, even google voice.... then a few days later changed their mind because ATT was offering a sweet deal to come back - new line. Reason it would not work?

If I went to Verizon or Spring it would work fine.

The google voice route works with target special offers. I have 0 experience with costco.

Pissed at myself I did not do this last week when Target was doing a nice promo. Just realized the Costo deal ends on the 22nd. Not sure if my port out will happen overnight.

Wonder if Target will come back with another deal next week?
