LOL @ the salty mini fanatics salivating at the mouth at the news.

I got the 17 Pro Max this year but the Air was tempting. The Pro Max has all the features but it’s bulky, heavy, and I don’t enjoy carrying it around or putting in my pants pocket. I’ve always had the Pro Max and the 17 is the worst model to carry around.

As for the Air:

The excessive “I NEED ALL DAY BATTERY LIFE” on here is not something I can relate to. Are you all content creators filming your life every day?

I work remote now, and before I worked in an office where I had a wireless charger kept at my desk. Very rarely am I in a position where my phone would die. Maybe on vacation when I was out and about all day. I end a typical day with my phone at like 60% battery.

The Air lacking battery in comparison to the lineup didn’t keep me from buying it. The lack of a second camera (preferably telephoto, not ultrawide) and the single speaker did. Two things I would very much miss in my phone.

I was hoping to see those two things for the Air 2 and I would definitely buy it over the cumbersome Pro Max.

Shame if Apple doesn’t give it a better chance before killing it off.

By all reports the samsung galaxy edge which debut 6 months ago has failed miserably and will be axed.
Unsure why apple thought they could avoid the same fate. Probably hubris.

Target audience would be the form over function group that do care about being seen with the latest and greatest.
Same people who usually gravitate towards model exclusive colours so they can show off to strangers on the train that they have the new one.
Apple has a proven track record as a very competitive successful company.

Always fully aware of what other smartphone manufacturers like Samsung are working on, Apples mistake was to underestimate their customers willingness to pay a premium price for an iPhone that suffers a distinct lack of features.

Air has only one camera, Edge has two. Air has only one speaker, Edge has two, Air has a smaller battery in a chassis that's almost identical to the Samsung.

When the public showed little interest in the better equipped Edge it only makes sense that the lesser iPhone wouldn't fare very well.

Now that market trends are being revealed it may suggest this "thin phone" category has failed.

The Air has been the best iPhone Ive owned. The size is perfect display wise, and to hold. It’s light. The battery lasts me all day. Im not taking pictures of birds in the sky any time soon. I just don't think it was marketed right, and shouldn't have been launched with the iPhone 17’s.

It really shows you how completely out of touch the Air lovers were on MacRumors.

If you believed them, Air was selling 30-50% of all new iPhones and everyone loved it. If someone touched it in-store, they would fall in love, just like a Hollywood movie.

All those emo threads created by Air users really shows the echo chambers that can exist and distort reality.
I wanted to like it when I held it. Didn’t think it was special.

It weighs the same as my wife’s 16, and I wanted to get her a light phone with a slightly larger screen, but she prefers 2 cameras and an APPLE SILICONE CASE, which Apple decided not to offer at all. I guess putting a case on it would make it less thin. But it also meant no sale…

Same. I would also add that thanks to its low profile, Liquid Glass looks perfect on the Air. While I don't like Liquid Glass on older devices, it looks perfect on the Air.

There were simply too many hardware compromises in Gen 1 but I wouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Add some bulk if necessary to give end users what they want, a better camera, better battery life and 2 speakers. As tech improves, it should be easier, not harder to do if you’re willing to add some bulk.

There are countless silicone cases she could have gotten for it from other companies.

The vanilla 17 does not feel much heavier in-hand versus the Air. 12 grams is 5 pennies.
Yeah, especially with the security tether in store, I couldn’t feel the difference. When you are trying to showcase a light and thin product, having a security tether than makes it heavier just destroys the impact.

While the Air may be lighter than the latest phones, it’s literally 2 pennies lighter than a base 16 and 15 and 3 lighter than a 14. Sure, it’s MUCH lighter than a 17, but that’s because the 17 is bloated!

For many people, they aren’t comparing the Air to the 17 as much as their current phone, and if you own a 15 or 16, it seems like a downgrade for a slightly bigger screen, and these people already made the choice not to buy the plus when it was available.

And yet, surprisingly to you I guess, many people want an Apple case, designed to fit the phone and not a third party case at launch that fits leaked specs…

That is too bad. I own one and amazed every-time I pick it up how much better it compares to my old 16 Pro or the 17 Pro I tried. When I had both the Air and the 17 Pro, I reached for the Air every-time, as it felt so much better and the screen seemed so much better being larger. Definitely more upsides to it than downsides for me.

Battery life is just as good as my 16 Pro was and I never use speaker, as have Airpods, so could care less about that.
I buy the plus models because it had a bigger screen and usually the best battery life. No need for a pro or its price.

The Air took its place and they made me look at Pixel. I mad the swap and it been a fresh change from the iPhone and the en********ation of iOS 26.

There are countless silicone cases on Amazon that will fit the Air perfectly. That's a silly reason to not get the Air. The camera argument is valid, of course.

Rather than thin standard phone with less features Apple should produce a slightly thicker full features phone with a slide off replaceable battery.

It would sell like hot cakes. I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Every time I go into the Apple Store, I wonder if I made the wrong choice by not getting the Air or even the Pro over the Pro Max due to how much more ergonomic and better in the hand they feel, though the Pro Max does feel the best it’s felt in the hand in years.

But my main complaints with my 15 Pro Max were the battery life and the thermals, and the Air isn’t an improvement on either of those. The 5X telephoto is also the camera I felt most grateful to have when I used it, so to go back to just one rear camera would’ve felt limiting and like I was missing out on memories I wanted to capture.

Hopefully the next niche product they decide to release will be one with an eye friendly, flicker free display devoid of any PWM and temporal dithering.

Looks like they f'ed themselves over by making premium materials exclusive to the line of phones no one is buying... I wonder if they are going to double down on cheaper feeling more Android alike Pros or backtrack now.

This is according to 9to5mac's report:

"The second-generation iPhone Air was initially set to launch next fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. According to The Information, the device was planned to be even lighter than the current iPhone Air and have a larger battery capacity.

Apple was also working on bringing the vapor chamber cooling system that first debuted on the iPhone 17 Pro to the iPhone Air 2. A separate supply chain rumor last week said the iPhone Air 2 may have also had two cameras.
"

"It’s possible the product is undergoing a significant redesign, and one person said Apple could still release the second-generation iPhone Air as soon as spring 2027 alongside the standard iPhone 18 and budget-friendly 18e"

If true, and Apple was going to fix all the shortcomings of the first iPhone Air, they should go ahead and release it.
I like the Air but in its current form has too many compromises. If it had a 6.9 inch screen, stereo speakers, 2 cameras and little more battery it would be a winner imo. Best selling iPhone is the max so they need a 6.9 inch version. I thought about it but wasn’t willing to give up my 6.9 inch screen. While I understand the plus was 6.9 inches, it was priced too close to the pros. I also feel the Air is priced too close to the pros.
