Is the switch from wifi to the cellular networks (GPRS, Edge and 3G) meant to be seamless?? My iphone refuses to connect to the internet after leaving my home wifi zone even with full O2 cellular coverage!

I have to reboot the phone in order to get connection. I have tried turning off wifi and leaving it on but safari still cannot connect along with any other internet based apps.

I did do a restore from my previous ipod touch first gen with i setup the phone, could this be the reason?

edit: brand new 16GB 3GS
