    I have the iphone 3gs 16GB (4.0.1).
Why does it say only 14.3GB capacity with 7.3GB available? Does the OS take up 1.7GB?

Also, when I plug the phone into my windows 7 pc and check the storage it shows 7.26GB free of 9.22GB. Why wouldnt it show of 16GB?

    Thanks :)

The os does drop available storage from 16 to 14.3 ish that's normal

Gigs are measured in two different ways. In marketing, 1 gig is 1000 megs. In actuallyity, 1 gig is 1024 megs, so the numbers are going to be slightly smaller when your PC sees it. On top of that, you have the OS AND a larger area cordoned off for the OS and "other"

Your windows PC is likely seeing the actual folder where you can drag and drop your pictures. The maximum capacity of this folder actually changes as you sync things, from iTunes, onto your phone.

    Thanks. LOVE your avatar/profile pic..........Toothless :)
And a puppy profile pic :) Awwwwwwwwww.. Thanks to you also. That explains it.

Anyone know how much space a movie takes when put onto your iphone or ipad?
I would imagine it's based on quality of bluray or standard dvd and what program you use to transfer it.
But I'm just talking buying/renting from itunes, netflix or hulu and loading them onto and ipad for travel.
Wondering if a 16GB ipad will be enough. If it's 1gb per movie and it has great resolution then 4 to 6 movies will be plenty and a 16GB would be plenty.

When you buy an 8GB iPod touch, you actually only get 6.5GB to use for yourself.
