iPhone to drop 32GB model?

What do you all think? My guess is that the 16gb model stays, while the 64 gb model and 128 gb models will be sold at the price points of the current 32 and 64 gb models.

Great way to upsell to consumers and get them to buy the more expensive models. Apple still earns a killing on those storage margins, while consumers going with the last 2 options get more storage for their buck. Jumping from 16 to 64 gb sounds too sweet a deal to resist.

Same here, I'd like to spend $299, but I need 32GB. I hope I don't have spend another $100 to get 32GB I doubt I'll need before a upgrade.

Hmm, from my understanding, apple would be selling the 64 gb iphone at the same price as the current 32 gb iphone.

Unless rumours of the larger 5.5" iphone costing more are true...:/

But it be more logical to scrap the 16GB version and offer 32GB,64GB & 128GB.

Yes it would make the most sense for them to keep the 16GB base. Starting off at 32GB would satisfy too many people's needs; fewer people would upgrade. And only $100 to upgrade to 64GB sounds like a deal compared to what we're used to, but still a huge margin for Apple.

This would be a welcome addition for me. I typically buy the 64gb version so if I can save $100 that would be great.

The jump in capacity has always struck me as odd. I pay $100 to get only 16gb more storage for the 1st jump, then 32 for the same $100, and if I am willing to pay that much, an extra 64gb for the 3rd $100?

With this new tier, I get +48gb of extra storage for the first extra $100 and +64gb for the 2nd $100, which sounds more balanced in a sense.

Hopefully, we will see this change apply to the iPads as well? Drop the 32gb iPad models and just have 16, 64 and 128.

Now a days 16gb storage capacity is not much more enough to people, so mostly people go with 32gb but there is not 32gb so they have to go with 64 and 64 is really a large storage capacity so according to me 64gb iPhone 6 will have a huge demand in future. and the main benefit is it will available in a price of 32gb.

I thought this would've been a great move a year ago. People who barely need any storage love the 16GB model, so Apple likely won't do away with it until you just can't get by with 16GB. After that, the flash doesn't cost nearly as much as Apple charges for the upgrades, and you can REALLY push more people to the higher-storage models with 64GB and 128GB options at $299 and $399. Last year when I got my 5S, I just couldn't pay $399 for a phone, especially at 64GB. But if you make a 128GB option, I am much more inclined to buy it.

On a side note, I highly recommend almost everybody now buying the 32GB or larger models. I did this with my dad's iPad Air he just bought. He had my old 64GB iPad 2, and I deleted a ton of just fluff but was still in the mid-20s. Almost everything people do today on iPads uses storage. The apps get bigger, especially as they try to support more and more screen sizes and products. Very useful apps like the iWork suite come about and require more storage than you thought about two years ago. My mom takes photos and video on her 16GB iPhone 5 yet for some reason is afraid to plug it up to remove the photos -- they still sync via iCloud. So the next phone she gets, I'm going to really talk her into a 32GB model.

If this rumour is true, then the storage/price breakdown would look as follows:

16gb - $199/$649
64gb - $299/$749
128gb - $399/$849

As someone who always buys the 32gb model, I would welcome this change since I would be getting way more bang for my buck. 16gb is so limiting and I could never get by with that despite the fact so many people do on a daily basis.

I do fine with 32GB, so ideally I'd prefer that to replace the 16GB. However, I suppose paying the same as the old 32GB for an extra 32GB of storage isn't un-appealing.

Would make any 5.5" iPhone above 16GB fairly expensive though

I go through 16 G really quick! My phone is my tool of work especially when it comes to photography. I take a lot of product shots for my online store. I've dropped my Nikon Camera and my iphone has become my main camera. A 256g option would be amazing to me. All the photos in my device organized by album would be a dream.

Yep. A lot of people use it as a phone first and don't have tons of video,apps and photos on their phone. I've taken less that 20 photos in the past month with my phone. I also delete photos I don't want.

This is exactly what will be happening, if 32 GB is dropped. I don't see how anyone could misunderstand this....

Instead of dropping the 16 GB model, and sliding 32/64/128 into 199/299/399....Apple has a much better strategy in mind.....keeping the 16 GB, and making the lineup

Everyone who always buys the lowest tier model because they care more about price than storage will see no change. Everyone who normally opts for more than the lower tier will see a welcome bump in GB-per-Dollar.

Meanwhile Apple manages to introduce the 128 GB model they've been waiting to, give customers better price offerings on 64 GB of storage, and maintain their gross margins on the low end, which account for 50% of iPhone sales.

Lots of people do, as I believe it is the best selling iPhone. Not everyone has the same needs.
