i dont have the same issue with you mate but my screen gets dimmer and faded in low brightness which is very annoying cause you can not see clearly dark images. When I went to an apple store they told me that every iphone screen is different if you compare it with another. No matter what, the quality of the screen is far more less than the expectations you have after paying 1000pounds for a phone.

For sure. I’m sure you can understand the frustration though when every other iPhone X I’ve seen does not have that issue

On iPhone X: Does anyone else notice on white/light backgrounds such as in settings or notes, that the edge of the display(in my case especially the top right corner), can look purple/pinkish when looking at it from varying angles? its subtle but noticeable, and its really getting annoying.

FYI, my girlfriends iPhone X does not do this, even with the same brightness and display settings as mine.

is this an OLED characteristic, or something that I could exchange my phone for?
Bring both your X and GF's X to Apple to show the difference and get yours exchanged ASAP.

This is the best I could capture, its most visible when I go to the home screen next to the camera and stocks app.

Keep in mind, the iPhone X I used to film this was auto adjusting on its own to adjust to lighting and colour changes. its far more obvious in person. the other X we have definitely does not do this.

Edit: you can actually see it in the thumbnail, it goes all the way around the notch too
I don't see what you're seeing.

Hi

I have the same issue as you on iPhone X. When I tilt the bottom of the device up slightly or tilt slightly to the left off the straight on viewing angle, I have a red hue along the right edge of the device display. Took it into Apple. They acknowledged the red line as I described, and said it was within acceptable norms. They said we could exchange eight other devices and get the same screen quality or worse so they wouldn’t authorize an exchange.

Was pretty surprised and disappointed to hear that type of response from Apple. I am strongly considering selling the device and switching to a Samsung Galaxy.

The other thing I find, is once you have stared at the red line, and then move it back to a straight on view, it creates an optical illusion of distorted white background, pretty annoying.

Yup, I had the issue the OP is describing.

I booked an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar to today (I’m based in the UK), as my screen was on the very warm side but also suffered from notable pink banding around the edges of the display, and appeared to have a largish pink patch in the upper right hand corner of the device which could be very distracting when using apps with a white background. It was much more noticeable with True Tone on, as well as Nightshift on in the evening (at its warmest setting).

The Genius was very helpful and got a display model to compare the two side-by side, with the same display settings. Even I was surprised by the marked difference. The display model was bright, crisp and and had a blueish tone to it, whilst mine was very dull and yellow / pinkish. He was so surprised by the difference he called a number of colleagues over to take a look also and of course they all checked the ‘display accomadations’ setting to ensure nothing was on that shouldn’t be (i.e. a colour filter etc). We checked every possible variable.

They replaced the phone with a brand new version which we set up and checked before I left. I also compared this phone side-by-side with a display model, with the same display settings turned on both. These were now both identical.

I am of course much happier with the replacement. However I do feel there is an issue with the OLED screen on these X’s and True Tone, as well as Nightshift on its warmest setting. All the iPhones I checked in the store appeared to suffer with some issues with uniformity with these two setting enabled and I think Apple has some work to do on the software side to adjust this. True Tone especially seems to be ‘exaggerated’ on the iPhone in some way, especially when you compare it to an iPad with True Tone turned also on. For now I am keeping True Tone enabled, but at night ‘i am having Nightshift on its mid-way setting, this seems to play much nicer with the screen and its looks more uniform. Alternatively turning Nightshift all the way up top its warmest setting and having True Tone off also seems to work quite well.

It’s pink on the right on mine too off axis

Had a few units now for other issues (att model reception sucked, the replacement had a pink upper third screen straight on)

Not sure what im gonna do

i forgot where i read it, but i heard apple was aware of the pink edges and apparently is going to fix it in a future software update. Nearly all the displays have this in some form or another.

I find it hard to believe: my current unit is fine. Some previous units had it though, so it’s pure manufacturing variance of these screens.

If you ever found the article that it was written in, could you link it here? I am reluctant to return my X and wait for a replacement. If this is fixable via a software update, then I’ll be holding on to mine.

Why do some spell color "colour"? Never understood it. Is color just an American thing?
English didn’t originate in the United States. It happens to be the native tongue of The United Kingdom.
Thanks to Andrew Carnegie who invested his money in the so-called Simplified Spelling Board: now Americans spell color instead of colour and neighbor instead of neighbour, plow instead of plough, etc. Apparently, it was too difficult for them lol

We're just more efficient ;):)

I was about to post a thread about this... my entire left edge is pinkish when looking at an angle. I’m aware OLED screen does this tho. I’ll exchange this later now we don’t have supply problem any more. Don’t know about you but if I drop $1250 for a phone, this better not have any annoying issue. I plan to keep this phone until a new design comes out.

My eyes are very sensitive to the pink/purplish hues that are often found on OLED displays. I went through multiple Galaxy S8s and have had a few iPhone Xs as well. I think LCD just works better for my eyes. There have been times that I've shown folks the pink hue and others haven't seen it. Very frustrating.

What are you gonna do? Go back to an older iPhone?

In my case I note that one side of the screen becomes more blue than the opposite when looked at off angle. This coupled with the very narrow angle where the screen looks “fine” really annoys me... I know OLED shifts color, but the narrow angle of this iphone is by no means indicative of a quality OLED display. For the outrageous price Apple charges for this I was expecting certainly a much better display. But I guess it is our (customers) fault for tolerating the very low quality control Apple is lately having with its devices... why should they bother if they know people will pay anyway? And no, the fact that the phone works despite this is no excuse. Very good phones work as well for half of the price. Here we are supossedly paying for premium high-quality...

This has become more and more annoying to me.... I’ll exchange this for a couple times. In case if the issue is on every phone, I’ll just return it and go back to my iPhone 6S plus. The 6S plus is still going strong. Plus I could save $1250...

If it shows more on a true tone or nightshift, just turn them off and the pink won't show, and once the update fixes the pink thing turn the true tone back on

It’s a Samsung issue and was first seen and reported on (as far as I know) on the S8 and S8+ when those models debuted several months ago. My S8+ suffers from this pink edging and now my iPhone X is also afflicted. I am debating a return because the phone is otherwise normal. Samsung did issue a software fix that worked on my device but it means I can’t use their more realistic color modes and have to use the Adaptive setting which enables us to have granular control over the display hue and saturation.

I’m not sure how Apple can implement a software fix without allowing the end user the kind of control over display settings that Apple usually prefers to reserve for itself. Since we all seem to suffer with the pink stains on differing locations and to different degrees this fix may not work for everyone.

I really don’t know what to do because I think mine is growing a bit worse. I easily ignored it since I got the phone but the last couple of days it appears to intrude more on my vision as I’m reading. It is true that not all displays have this problem but the thing is, some look much worse in other ways.

I will likely end up doing nothing after all. I have a couple of weeks left to decide.
