I've had my iPhone X since Monday and I have to say that I'm loving this phone. I had some concerns when the phone was announced back in September, mainly the lack of TouchID and the notch. I also had a big concern Monday when I turned on my new phone and hated the way that True Tone looked. I turned off True Tone and hated it more. I had a severe case of buyers remorse Monday, but slept on it and things have been great ever since. I figured I'd give a list of positives/negatives for anybody still on the fence who wants a perspective of somebody who has actually used this phone.

Positives:

1.) Screen - The screen is gorgeous. It's even more apparent when I hold my girlfriend's 7 Plus side by side. She commented as well on much better the X's screen is. I had some initial concerns with burn in but I'm pretty convinced that it won't be a major issue, especially if you stick to using auto-brightness, which has been working great.

2.) True Tone - I've really grown to like True Tone. My first impression was pretty bad and I immediately turned it off, which I didn't like much better. I slept on it Monday night and turned back on True Tone, telling myself I'd give it a day or two. By now I'm really liking the way the colors look and it's actually somewhat jarring to look at my girlfriend's 7 Plus. For anybody who hates it right away, give yourself a few days before you make a decision (and don't constantly compare the screen to your old device).

3.) Notch - I still hold the opinion that the notch itself was a weird design decision and wish it wasn't there. That said, I'm listing this is a positive because like many others have said, in real world use, the notch is a complete non factor. It basically disappears in portrait mode and I've quickly grown use to it i landscape, especially since most of my time is spent looking at the center of the screen vs. the edges. it stands out much more in pictures or videos when that is all your focusing on. When you are actually using the X and focusing on the content on the screen, the notch doesn't even register.

4.) FaceID - This is the true standout star here. FaceID works almost flawlessly. I haven't once wished I had TouchID back. It's worked for me in different lighting conditions and in the sun. The few times it doesn't work, it's very quick and easy to type in my password. This thing works even better when it comes to quickly opening apps like LastPass or my banking app. FaceID is far better security in apps vs. TouchID because you no other steps to complete, just open the app, it scans, and you are in. It works great. Personally I think TouchID's days are numbered, and if it does come back, I doubt I'll be using it.

5.) Lack of Home Button / New Gestures - It took me a good few hours before I stopped missing the Home Button. The gestures work very well and I really like the new flow of navigating around. It feels like the future and it seems like most people are quickly getting use to, and in many cases preferring, having no home button.

Negatives
1.) Battery Life - I am coming from a Plus so I'm seeing a bit of a dip in battery life. Not awful, for not unexpected. Wireless/quick charging make this is a little easier to deal with, but people who aren't near a charger all day are probably going to have a tough time keeping this thing charged if they are using the phone a lot during the day.

2.) Control Center Location - This isn't huge for me, but it is a bit annoying, esp. one handed, to drag down the new control center.

All in all a great device and anybody who is on the fence should go check one out on display at The Apple Store.

Battery life said to be improved in 11.2 update. We all know that's subjectvtonuse but overall it should be a noticeable improvement.

I absolutely my Silver X ... I want it in my hands all the time. Lol

Great post! I'm in almost 100% agreement with you on everything except battery life. So far my X has far outperformed my 7+ over a regular work day. Couple that with the ease of wireless charging, and it's a win win win for me.

My negatives can easily be fixed over time with software. I'd like an option to remove the little black bar on the bottom of the screen. It's nice as a reminder of where to swipe from, but once you are used to the gestures it's completely unnecessary. I'd also like the option to not need to swipe for unlock, i.e. use FaceID only. As I suggested in another post, I'd love it if they let you do a wink or smile or some sort of personal facial gesture for unlock, or have the choice to just have nothing else additional.

Jury's out for me on True Tone. I've gone back and forth a number of times and fiddled with the filters. Right now I'm happy with it off but I'll probably keep playing with it.

Same here. This is the first iPhone that has grown on me with usage. When I first held it, I really liked it but not totally in love with it. It looked great and very high quality but coming from the 7 Plus, the screen size was up for debate.

Now after 4 days, i enjoy it more and more. Comfortable to hold, gestures are intuitive, lightning quick, and display is excellent. My concerns from the 7 Plus screen size to the X have melted away. Although, if an X Plus comes out next year, I’ll probably be heading for that one.

Agree with the OP apart from battery life, I’m seeing around an extra hours worth of screen time than my iPhone 6s Plus, and a massively increased standby time. It’s a massive upgrade overall and I’m loving it.

I’m all for better battery life if that’s what’s supposed to be coming in iOS 11.2!

Over lunch today I watched the ending scenes (Whatney's rescue) from The Martian in Dolby Vision (HDR) on my iPhone X. Wow! If you want to see the OLED really pop with amazing contrast, color, and flawless blacks, watch this movie on it. This is the most impressed I've been with this display yet. The differences compared to the iPhone 7 Plus display when watching content like this is HUGE! Makes me want an OLED TV now...

Agree 100%

This phone is really the future.

I mean, it knows who you are by how you look... this is like AI stuff...

And that’s BEFORE you lay your eyes on that beautiful lit OLED screen.

Battery life is great! Reminds me of the Plus, definitely longer than the small body phones (non-plus)

Just wish more apps were optimized , like google Maps

Really iffy at first coming from a 7 plus thinking narrow screen Taller display would be a downgrade but no. The more I use the phone the more I love it. OLED is awesome. Once you go OLED there is no going back. Don’t miss Touch ID. Face ID is the future. Love this phone. Looking back to my 7 plus the huge bezels make it ancient. But yes hopefully a plus comes out I’ll get that next time. For now enjoy this wonderful phone.

I don’t miss the plus anymore. I also use my phone in portrait most of the time anyways. And Face ID is pretty much perfect. If this is gen 1 I can’t begin to imagine how well it will be two years from now.

They are already ahead of the competition in this area to begin with.

Agreed. Amazing device. I even really like the notch. Glad there's not a boring bezel. Just seems more futuristic to me.

Agree - all good points. I have no problem with the swipe down on the right to get to the Control Center. Once you get used to it, it is very natural.

One negative about the Touch ID is if my hands were even slightly damp, it would not work - so I'm a big fan of the Face ID.

Battery life for me is on par with my just sold iPhone 7 Plus. There's no going back once you've used the OLED display. True Tone makes the display too yellow for me. i love how notifications on lock screen only display information if I'm looking at, small touches like that is so Apple. Favorite iPhone since I bought the original on launch day (have upgraded to the latest flagship every year since). Apple knocked it out of the park.

Fantastic quality overall, very happy that I spend the extra over getting the iPhone 8 vanilla.

Face ID has really grown on me! So effortless. Love how it gives you access to the content of text messages (SMS) on the lock screen when you look at it. One touch, and you can type in an answer. Brilliant.

The control center is the only issue as far. A bit difficult to reach when you hold the phone in one hand.

Initially I thought the screen was too small. Now that I’ve used it for a week, I’ve definitely gotten used to the size and absolutely love it. Using it with one hand isn’t difficult anymore. Don’t get me wrong, if there were an X plus, I’d be even more in love.

It's not the display that is too small, it's the overall size that feels small to me. In a lot of ways, The overall size is much smaller than I anticipated, but given the larger display. It's a great phone, but I already am looking forward to 2018 with the rumored 6.4 iPhone X.
