This is one of those things that might not be an everyday thing but Face ID seems to be failing with immediate change of look. All those fancy dress party goers are not going to like it.

It seems like it only failed when he deliberately disguised himself. Worked fine with haircuts, various changes to facial hair, glasses, and sunglasses.

Are you just the other user Oplix using a different username... If you wear gloves, TouchID doesn't work either for the most part.

And if you wear thicker gloves, the home button on the 7 and 8 doesn’t work at all.

I don’t see the problem. It’s not like you only have one time to activate Face ID and that’s that. You can reset it as many times as you like. So if your going to a fancy dress and Face ID doesn’t recognise you, can’t you reset it? Can’t you set Face ID for your costume? Set it back the next day?

Yeah if you are wearing a mask delete your face ID and use that for the evening then delete it next day

Problem solved

What are you talking about? It looked to perform exactly as it should. It worked when his face was recognizable and didn’t when it wasn’t. I subjectivity “agreed” with all of the instances that it did and did not unlock for him.

A balance must always be struck between security and convenience, and FaceID seems to be striking it well thus far.

I’m saying it’s not going to work in situations like this. So if one is at a fancy dress party then they need to use passcode.

FaceID also doesn’t work if you are wearing a mask. What a complete fail. So disappointed that Apple didn’t think of its mask wearing customer base!!!11

FaceID won’t work if you’re wearing a mask, just like how touchID won’t work if you’re wearing a glove. Kinda expected I’d say. ;)

I’ve actually not posted this as a problem. I just posted because loads of people go to fancy dress parties on Halloween. It’s a light hearted joke.

Wait, where in the video does it show that "fancy dress party makeup" will prevent it from working? Does he put on makeup that prevented FaceID from working? Or do you mean like a Masquerade Ball type of "makeup". Should be understandable why wearing a fake nose and moustache wouldn't work.

UGGGH! Damn you Apple for making me choose between a phone and my extensive clown nose collection! Also this makes it much harder for me to choose to enter the FBI Witness Relocation Program if ever that should be necessary. I mean, OK, never see friends and family again but not having an iPhone recognize my prosthetic face that's too much.

You know the Halloween parties.

Some people seem to have found it to be an inconvenience and slower than Touch ID.

Yes, but people seem to have no problem with 4-cylinder engines and off-schedule subway trains so I'm not sure that will be a huge issue if true. Heh.

From how I see the X selling, people are NOT so reluctant to change.

Most Apple device will sell at this point though. Apple market their products amazingly. It’s not directly comparable but yeah I get what you mean.

My guess is, if it did unlock for all the "fancy party makeup" looks and others that do not match the recorded Face ID then people would be screaming about the lack of security because it unlocks for people that don't look like them or imposters trying to impersonate them.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah unfortunately it seems this forum is currently infested with people who'll yell at you for daring to suggest their beloved $1k+ phone isn't akin to the second coming. Bizarre mentality. What's wrong with accepting a few flaws? It's hardly surprising.
