My wife does a lot of photoshop work for her photos. She recently decided to get organized and use iPhoto. The problem is that some of the really heavily edited photos don't show up very well. In the album view, they are black. In the selected view (pic 2) they are transparent and you can see photos BEHIND the selected photo (notice the squares IN the photo...not supposed to be there.
