iPod touch Ipod Touch 2G Shut off issue .. HELP..

I have a 16gb ipod touch 2g. It will work perfectly until the ipod locks at that point for some reason it shuts itself off. Other than that it has full functionality it just shuts itself off when the screen dims out and it locks. Anyone know how to resolve this issue or having the same issue? Thanks
