iPod touch iPOD touch not connecting correctly.

alright, i have an ipod touch 32 gig.
everytime i try plugging it into itunes it says unable to connect unknown error has occered. i've tried holding the sleep button after it's turned off & plugging it in to restore it, it comes up but when i push restore it says "the ipod software update server could not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct & your network connection is active, or try again later."


please help ASAP!​

I have tried a different USB port, & that didn't work.
but i have not tried a different computer.
