iPod touch ipod touch2g wont fully restore help!!

ok well my ipod was running 3.1.2 so I decided to upgrade to the new firmware and have been at this for some time. I hit restore , it downloads the firmware and everything goes fine until it gets to the point where it says restoring ipod software....it has only a little green left and it gets stuck there for more then ten minutes same with iPod its at the apple logo with a tiny sliver left , its in recovery mode at least thats what itunes says, Please Help mee

try putting it in DFU mode, and shift/option restore it to the 4.0 Firmware. you'll lose all your data though.

Data meaning; high scores on games, etc.
