Is AirPlay mirroring to Apple TV P2P, or just regular AirPlay?

If mirroring is P2P, how's the lag when streaming from a Mac or iOS device? Is it usable for gaming?

Edit: For clarification, P2P AirPlay is a new feature in iOS 8.

Anybody been able to get P2P working, i have the ios8b3 and the latest apple tv beta os and still nothing. Any suggestions? i understand its a beta, but im curious if its working for anyone else. I am trying from my iphone BTW NOT mac

It might be automatic, but I'm not sure. Doesn't seem very Apple-like to give the user an option for that. Might be wrong, though.
