I first updated my 8+ to iOS 11.4 and didn’t really think about battery life, but saw the following video of a YouTube channel I frequent which got me curious if I’d get the same sort of improvement:

Then today I checked out my battery stats and was blown away by the usage time (which is basically all “screen on time”, no music playing while the screen is off to inflate usage stats funny business...):eek::eek:

Almost 6 hours of screen on time and the battery is still at 80%, what the heck is going on? I mean the screen brightness is on the low side of things (around 25-30%) and I haven’t done much besides text and browse safari, but this just seems ridiculous o_O:confused:o_O

Hmm that seems too good to be true (not calling you a liar, OP).

I'll test it out on my 8 Plus too and see what I get. Not updated yet.

That’s not possible with screen on time, so a lot of that 6 hours must be background usage

Yes a bunch of us are seeing that in another thread. Some days by midday I am seeing 6 hours usage (basically every waking minute) but the actual minutes used for each app if you total it up is around an hour or two (even including background usage). It’s a ‘feature’ to make us think battery life is improved

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah I figured there’s no way the stats above could be possible, but the battery life has still been pretty amazing for me so far on 11.4 :)

By any chance do you know which thread it was you are referencing in the above post?

For me it’s worse than 11.3 was. Actually it’s going back when iOS 11 released last September. Huge battery drain when doing very light stuff on my 6s plus.

My iPhone X has lost about 2 hrs of screen on time. I used to get 8-9 hrs screen on before, now im lucky to hit 7 with the same usage. Could be indexing, but i doubt, since the update has not introduced any major changes.

I voted no, but not because I get bad battery on 11.4, but rather just completely normal.

I did a restore to iOS 11.4 and set it up as new, and I'm seeing what iAppleBytes is seeing. About a 30 minute increase in battery life. Not too bad.

Anyone having battery issues should restore it and set it up as new.

Its not normal to set our phone as new to get the expected battery life. I set up my phone as new last september with ios 11. I just dont want to reset it up again and have to re-configure everything again when 11.3.1 was fine with battery life.

True. It is a major pain, but sometimes these phones don't "just work".

    It is insane. True that.

    On my X:

    3 h 45 m of continuous talk time for me from 100% to 81%.

    On my 10.5:

3 hr of screen/light browsing usage as per Battery stats gets me to around 80% with say 12 h standby.

But I’ll let you in on a secret. I’m getting this after a DFU/recovery restore.

Before that it was much much less.

You need to do a DFU restore.

Battery life on my iPad Pro is still as poor. Granted, it's over 2 years old, but on-screen usage has been abysmal. Don't see any noticeable improvement on my end.

I noticed this too on my 8+. Best battery life yet for me and my battery health is reading at 93% which I think is inaccurate.

Both my iPad 10.5 Pro and iPhone X are getting fantastic battery life. When I first upgraded the iPhone seemed to be draining more. But yesterday I charged it to 100% and it only dropped 1% overnight (12 hours). It's now on 20hours standby, 4 hours usage and I'm still at 64%. Definitely took a few days to stabilize.

I did a normal restore and set it up as new. Will doing a DFU restore make it last longer? Or is it the same thing?
