Seriously, how many people on here think Apple's design team is a one man band o_O Since becoming SVP of design, I would imagine he's been in more of an overseeing role than an actual hands on one. Perhaps this is why he's leaving?

I don’t know the exact number, but can you imagine how many design engineers Apple actually has for each product segment? (i.e Mac/Watch/Airpods, ect) I mean, Ive is most certainly behind certain aesthetics with the iPhone, but I digress, I’m kind of baffled how many believe Apple will ‘fall apart’ without his participation.

I know he has been part of Apple since the early 90s, but his design contributions will always continue with Apple, he set the tone for his design cues moving forward.

I believe Android might become a serious option for some including myself

Thoughts?

I get your concerns but android has been a serious option for some time now. There are some exceptional devices within the android platform. The beauty is we are free to come and go as we please. I personally go between Apple/android quite regular and find the transition mostly seamless and I never feel I’m missing out.

Many here won’t admit to it but there’s nothing wrong with experiencing the Best of both and many do, albeit, quietly (the purists) ;)

By all means take a step back from iPhone if you are worried for future devices. You can always jump back in when you realise there really was nothing to worry about. One man’s departure does not throw the company into chaos. I’m completely ok with a refresh and optimistic for future iPhone.

Hopefully NOT, I seriously hope some fresh air goes trough design there, I mean it is time they stop "refereshing" the "old design" and start something new, without buulges, bumps and such.

There are hell of renders of how products could be, hire someone from those renders to refresh the entire line!

Maybe Apple will change and get over their obsession for thin on all their devices.

Some of us prefer thin, I do, but not when it has to sacrifice and have bad keyboards, over heating ora battery that does not last as long.

Uh no. My purchases weren’t dependent on one designer at apple and what he wants to do with his personal life. The fact you even asked this

1 - Ive was not the only person designing every single aspect of every single Apple product, contrary to what some might believe, so it's not like his leaving is going to drastically change the way future products look

2- Ive leaving is not going to make Android any less of a discombobulated mess than it is now so I think I will stay put.

he designed all the products into a "Dimensional Corner" with no more opportunity for shrinkage. After realizing that he'd reached the limits of physics, he quit.

Maybe now that he's gone we'll get an interesting iMac, laptop, iPhone

I’m using an iPhone X and love it.

No issues (knock on wood)

But now that Ive is out I’m not sure how future iPhones will be

I believe Android might become a serious option for some including myself

I've already left for Android, but now that Ives is leaving, I'll be looking to see what Ives-less iPhones offer.

Why?

He had nothing (or near-nothing) to do with the OS. And as he has publicly stated, Apple will be one of his new company's main clients, so he will likely still have a hand in the industrial design of new products. He wasn't exactly the chief designer of every single product, I'm sure the last few iPhones were done with barely any input from him.

It seems silly to consider abandoning a company's products you know you like because one person moves from being employee to contractor. (Effectively.)

While I dislike where the iPhone's design is going, it's not going to keep me from switching to Android as I'm heavily invested into the ecosystem and won't be leaving due to one person leaving.

I doubt they will make any drastic changes without him there. Maybe...mayyyybe, they'll stop with trying to make everything as thin as a piece of paper, but the general design will probably stay the same.

As long as it is durable, reliable, and functional, no.

Well quite, the front page article even mentioned he's leaving behind the team he's been working with over his tenure, and I'm quite sure they've been heavily involved with developing the look of Apple's latest products, even if Ive has had the final say and signed them off. It sounds like for major redesigns (like the now 3-year iPhone cycle or the 4-year MBP cycle) they might draft him back in to work on refining the look as well, so my guess is nothing changes - the products still look great, people still complain they're too thin, life goes on :D

I can see many people begging Ive to leave Apple.
But, like other members, my decision of keeping using Apple product is not because the lack of Ive. Though, i do hope his departure would push design tra, t9 design something that is not just thin.

I would think you were joking but I know you from past posts.

Enjoy your Android phone, we all will miss you!

I’m still amazed at your passion for supporting (good) and defending (questionable) Apple no matter the subject. But that’s ok. I guess. Your heels are dug in.

As for the OP’s question... nope. I’m enjoying my new XR. In four or five years when I upgrade I’ll have more of an opinion on those iPhones. Won’t be switching to another brand, though. Unless Apple puts out some kind of sloppy garbage of course. Then I’ll be in a predicament ;)

Relentless ;)
