yo. im getting tmobile soon, the $30 plan for unlim txt/web + 100min. im going to put the sim in my iphone 4, which ufortunately only supports E. is Edge really that slow? i live in Seattle which has pretty good coverage, I realize that its slower than 3g -____-. but how slow is it?
The numbers are out there for you to Google. If you want a feel for it then disable 3G on your iPhone and see if you can live with it.

Will GPS apps work fine on EDGE or will it be laggy?

Gps doesn't need data to work.
The GPS receiver doesn't need data to work. The GPS app may or may not. It really depends on the app. If the app does require data then its performance could be affected by the slow data speed of EDGE. Again, depends on the app and its data requirements. If the data requirements are low (and you're not doing anything else requiring data) then you might be able to eek by on EDGE.

Op, why in hell would you wanna cripple an iPhone on tmo's Edge speed?!?!?!
I wouldn't. That doesn't mean that there aren't people using iPhones on TMO though.

It obviously works on EDGE, since more than half of AT&T's network is EDGE, but it's a poor choice to have an iPhone on T-Mo, when you could have Faux G on AT&T or an Android device with Faux G on T-Mo.

using EDGE for texting...

Hey everyone,

Alright so I am looking at the TM $30 buck plan that has unlimited data, unfortunately if appears that I can not text to Canada with the unlimited texting.
So i am thinking of just using an app to text people in Canada. My question is would a texting app be alright on EDGE? Id assume that it would be fine maybe a little slow but how much data could it really be using?

I dont want to get a new phone i have a HTC dezire z from bell mobility (canada) and i like it very much. I also got the iphone 2g so either way id be using edge.

Anyways, Thanks for the insight.
