Is it a good idea to change the Mac OSX theme?

I was interested in seeing what could be done, I simply googled "mac osx themes" and got some interesting results.

Anyways, would it be a mistake to change the theme? Is it reversible? Such as, can it be undone if I need / want to?

I do run time machine, if something were to mess up, would I need to completely restore my mac from a time machine backup? I am running on 10.6

Apple has for the most part made it very difficult to theme OSX, so much so, there is a very limited community of themers. There's a couple of apps floating around if memory serves me, they typically break when apple updates the system.

You will need to replace some system files, backup the old ones so you can just put them back when you need it to.
