Is it a good idea to put odd amouts of RAM in the unibody MBP?

For example, what if I upgrade the unibody MBP to 5GB of RAM: 4GB+1GB or 2GB+1GB, is this a bad thing?

Also can anyone clarify the whole double and triple channel stuff?

Also is 8GB not an option right now for the MBP? Will 8GB be possibly supported in Snow Leopard?

You lose dual-channel support, but if you programs will take advantage of the extra RAM, the loss of dual-channel (and applicable performance loss) will negated by the gains from additional RAM.

As with the amounts themselves, if you're going to spend money on the 4GB sticks you might as well upgrade to the maximum supported (6GB on the 15") and not the weird amount of 5GB.
