I purchased an iPhone 7 for my father about a year or two ago. His battery currently is at a 93% battery capacity. He has been complaining that the battery deplete very fast. Especially overnight when its unplugged (he charges it to 100% and then unplugs.) So last night he disconnected the phone once it reached 100% and went to sleep. Today he woke up to 43% battery.

Background app refresh is completely off. Checked the battery app and it says "Phone" was on screen for 1 hour and 1 minute, which is strange because he doesn't talk on the phone that much. He also uses WhatsApp which ill assume is a battery hogger. Anyways any recommendations would be appreciated!

WhatsApp will kill the battery yes.

What is the top app for usage in the last 24 hours? That will likely be the culprit.
Whatsapp was at a 12% usage overnight. But the Phone app apparently was at a 40% with over an hour of usage time overnight. Might be some sort of bug?

Have him charge overnight. He’s most likely trying to keep the battery capacity high, but charging overnight isn’t that stressful on it.

Does the phone do any backups at night? Like WhatsApp or iCloud?

Could be related to that? Just a thought

He usually does charge the phone overnight. This time I asked him to charge it to 100% and disconnect it to see exactly what it is that is draining his battery. Turns out it was the phone app. It would say he used it for over an hour while he was sleeping. Did a factory reset and set the phone as new. Hopefully this fixed the issue.

Nope. It doesn’t do any backups at night. I reset his phone to factory settings and set it as new. That might’ve done the trick. Thanks for everyone’s help!
