Right now I have a 15" flat panel imac 800mhz with 512 MB RAM (via two dimms at 256 each). I'm thinking about leaving one of the 256's and replacing the other with a 512, thus leaving me with 768 MB RAM. Would I really notice much difference in anything? I use my computer pretty heavily with film editing and such. Is the change with the $150 at crucial? And would there be any issues with one dimm being apple and the other being crucial? Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since I've had my G3 PowerBook, I've always bought RAM from coastmemory. They are pretty inexpensive and the RAM is pretty good quality. I've never had a problem with them and you can sell them your old RAM or you can sell them your RAM at the time of your purchase and it will go towards your new RAM.

Crucial is the best but they are a bit pricey. When I get a new PowerBook, though, I'm going to max out the RAM with Crucial memory because I want the best for the new PB.

There's no doubt that's a tough position. It's not a cheap upgrade, and at first the difference will not be that noticable. Eventually though you'll replace both 256's with 512's... max it out, then you'll see a difference. What other option do you have really? Is the harddrive 7200rpm?
You will see a difference and I'm sure it'll be worth it. It's a tough lesson to learn but way back in my pentium2 days I learned that when you go to buy ram, you buy the largest stick available the first time... cuz you're going to end up replacing anything else eventually.

On the iMac G4 Flat Panels, you can only replace one of the DIMMs. Replacing the other DIMM voids the warranty.
