I have a mid-2020 Intel iMac and have resisted upgrading to Ventura, mainly over concerns it might slow down my system or not work as well on an Intel Mac. The hardware requirements were upped with Ventura, one reason I worry it may not run as smoothly.

For those who have upgraded to Ventura on an Intel Mac, how has it gone? My mid-2020 iMac is the 3.3 ghz model and I bought extra RAM (32 GB) that I put in myself when I bought it. I mainly use the system for web, office, streaming, social media, and some minor video/photo editing.

Firefox, for instance, just dropped support for 3 versions of Mac OS (10.12-10.14) and Chrome dropped a couple earlier this year (now need 10.13 or later). So while there's still a few versions before Monterey, it seems like the walls may be (slowly) beginning to close in. I think this next version of Safari will be the last for Monterey too.

Or, at this point, is it worth just waiting for Sonoma to come out? But that's another OS away from the Intel era too....

Advice welcome.

My wife is still using her 2019 base MBA that she used through grad school. She's updated it to Ventura long time ago and I can't see any slowdowns. She's not running anything more intense than MS Office or Chrome.

I like "the look of Monterey" better -- particularly insofar as the settings panel is arranged.
This may or may not matter to you.

Ventura is working just fine on my 2017 MBP.

If you do upgrade and have issues, you can always downgrade back to Monterrey...assuming you have good backups, which you should have anyway.

You didn't post your storage info, but if you have enough space on your SSD, why not make a new volume and install Ventura on that? If it doesn't work out just delete that volume.
You could also install Ventura on an external USB 3 SATA SSD.
With OCLP, Ventura runs fine on my 27" iMac, which is much older than yours, so I think it will run just fine.

2020 Intel MBA 8GB here, currently running Monterey
Monterey is already pushing my MBA to its limits and lags occur frequently

would Ventura perform better (not just the same) with multiple apps open?
