I say no. I paid 425 for this 2015 13 inch and spent a bit more for a 2tb drive.. I’d take that money and find something a bit newer.. but that’s me..

I had a 2013 13 MBA with I&, upgraded 2 years ago as it started showing its age ... even back then I would have not spent $300 to repair it ... YMMV

Just curious - what is the part that needs replacing?

logic board? three different shops(2 independent and 1 Apple authorized) all said the same thing. the cheapest one quoted me $200 for the part and $100 for labor, with a 6-month warranty.

this Macbook Air is in pristine condition, still sitting inside original box with brand new Apple charger(which I bought just a couple of months before the logic board went kaput) that was about 3 years ago and it sat in the closet ever since.

CPU soldered. RAM soldered. SSD soldered.
You trust the cheapest guy?
So you’ve got the quote 3 years ago or recently? Since you haven’t used it in 3 years, why do you want to spend $300 on it now?
As I said before, if it were me: no. Maybe the “cheapest” guy will give you money for spare parts…

the cheapest guy is highly rated by almost everybody here on MacRumors?(posters with 10,000 or more posts) Or is that still kind of risky?

You’re at almost half the price for a refurbished M1 MacBook Air. I’d save my pennies and get the air.

Depends.
$300 to fix the 4GB RAM 128GB SSD base model? No way.
$300 to fix a maxed i7 8GB RAM with 500GB SSD? Go for it.
Something in between? Probably not.

So basically, the logic board is gone (faulty) and all the repair shop is going to do is a replacement, take out the faulty motherboard and replace it with a working one and they want $100 labour charge for it!!!!!..utter rip off. The base unit can be stripped down and put back together again in less than 1hr!!! I know because I have done lots of them (non US).

There are 2 parts:
1/ Is the repair cost reasonable? Yes
2/ Does it make sense to repair? It depends. If you care about the 11" form factor, there is no alternative.

Also, if the machine has been sitting around 3 years, I doubt the battery will be in great condition.
