Frisco, use the advanced editing controls and you'll be able to edit your thread title.

To answer your question, I don't know. That's part of what I was trying to say in the "socialism" thread.

I will say that if this doofus does end up being the deciding factor that allows McCain to pull ahead, it'll be the flat-out stupidest reason anyone ever won an election.

    "Joe" is actually Tom.

And he doesn't have a plumbing contractors license.
And his company would get a tax break under Obama's plan.;)

Joe the Plumber is a liar.

He doesn't have enough money to buy the business he says he wants to buy. In fact, he still owes the government over $1,000 in taxes.

If he did make $250,000, that would make him one helluva plumber. The average plumber, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, makes $42,000.

And finally, if he did ever own a small business, McCain's health care proposal would kill him - while Obama's would save him thousands.

So no, if America pays attention, it shouldn't have an effect on the outcome.

Obama did a better job defending is economic plan then McCain did attacking it.

I also think people realize that the 700 billion needs to come from somewhere and the rest of the world is also broke.

I was going to post something about this. I think it's clear that Joe the plumber is one of mccain's minions.
its not a coincidence that this guy happens to be at an obama event, then gets brought up by john mccain during the debate, becomes famous, then attacks obama.
and its no mistake that his celebrity name is joe the plumber (especially since his first name is sam and he's not really a plumber). joe as in average joe and plumber as in middle class. mccain is trying to break up obama's love affair with average everyday middle class voters. mccain wont shut up about the darn plumber. and abc is reporting that joe the plumber will be campaigning with mccain this week. with its a pretty good tactic, i'd say. now is the time where obama proves if he's got any backbone. this is the type of thing he said he'd be able to stand up against in the general election.

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, according to the Hartford Courant newspaper, the first hit I get when I google "Joe the plumber".

It's okay, McCain got his name wrong too. Called him Joe Wurzelberger.

I said yes, because it could be a plumbers rebellion. Plumbers are going to control everything. I knew there was something fishy about recent activity in the stock market.

McCain's odds of winning shot up to 6.2 percent, up from 4.9 percent not long after the plumber conversation came up at the last debate, and a "roast" dinner.

The only person that I could think of that cost/swung the election were Ralph Nader in 2000 and some funny Texas guy with big ears in 1992. But those two were not plumbers, just politicians who were on the ballot :)

EDIT: As of this thread, McCain shot up to 6.4% and at this rate, Obama's chances of winning may dip below 90% (fivethirtyeight.com). Maybe Macrumors is creating an effect on this election. Wow, and to think that plumbers and Mac users can change American politics.

But McCain is a maverick doing maverick things. It would be maverick of him to pull off this election, don't you think. :)

I think Joe might cost McCain the election, but not vice-versa.
The Joe the Plumber story "springing a leak" is already becoming the new story. I feel bad for the guy. McCain has tried to make it sound like Obama is turning the "heat" on "Joe" with smears, but that's such a stretch its embarassingly unsticky. ACORN is still good for a headline though.

Joe the plumber is the typical yahoo and hasn't even looked into things enough to realize he will be screwed by McCain's policy and helped by Obama's. Its the typical dumbing down of America where this guy doesnt know enough to talk about the subject in a intelligent manner. Going to run a plumbing company and doesnt have license? Currently saves a ton of money under OBama's plan and gets 0 from McCain plan to help the rich?

Reminds me of the old lady who is telling McCain she wont vote for a Arab and doesnt even know Obama's not Arab. Lets face it these two typify the U.S. voter who knows who's on American idol but has no idea what the 1st amendment gives us.

These people see one thing, Obama's color or the party he is in and little else.

True enough, but have you seen footage of McCain at his rallies? He's still talking about Joe the plumber, and people are still cheering. When you talk about Joe springing a leak, they all stick their fingers in their ears and shout, "We can't heeeeeeeeaar yoooouuuuuu."

True also, and while we talk in the foreground about Bush and McCain, I'm always reminded, in the back of my mind, that the greatest enemy of ours is not Bush or McCain, it's stupid voters. I'm not sure how we turn out so many idiots who simply, almost automatically, buy into such obvious jingoistic bull****...but we do.

While programs like NCLB are drilling our kids in math and science, we're obviously not educating them well enough in civics, history, politics, philosophy and the Constitution.

I see this Joe fellow was vetted by the McCain camp as thoroughly as Palin was...

At least Joe's media accessibility has been better than Palin's.

I don't think this Joe the Plumber nonsense has done anything but shore up his diminishing support. I can't imagine, after learning that Joe isn't a plumber, isn't rich, and is very conservative (not undecided), that sensible people would buy the story. But this is America, so I wouldn't put it past the people to think he was anything but a McCain operative from the beginning.

He sounds far more intelligent, if ideologically driven, than Palin... and he needs the money.
