Hello, guys! I have a few questions about the public betas of iOS.
1) Will I experince groundbreaking problems with beta 5 or public beta 4?
2) Have you ever experinced problems with installing a beta? Something like a stuck installation or something like that?

Kinda yes.
1. Just look at the release notes and known issues. If they affect you, then you shouldn’t be using it.
2. Never faced problems with beta installation. Make sure you install the correct beta profile. There are 2 profile types. One is Developer and the other is Public. Public beta is 1 day to 7 days late than Dev beta. So you choose. Do not install WatchOS or TVOS profile as you will not get actual updates then.

You can restore to old iOS 11 using iTunes. Just make a full backup while your phone is on iOS 11.

I ran a couple of betas (iOS 9-11), and the problem was never iOS itself, it was the weird behaviour of apps which I use daily. So if you want to run a beta, other than researching what is broken in iOS, also check what apps have known issues.

Historically, the PBs have been pretty safe. iOS PB 3 was great for me. I am not enjoying PB 4 right now. Just this morning I found a bug where images on a SD card are not recognized when using the Lightning to SD card reader.

What issue. I am on T-MOBILE and have had no issues.

I've seen folks on the Reddit boards indicating that GPS didn't work properly in mapping apps for folks on T-Mobile on the earlier PBs. Sounds like that's maybe not an issue anymore.

I’ve had no GPS issues personally

I have installed PB4 over 11.4.1 on iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2 and it is very smooth overall.

Wait for final release

FWIW, I am on the public betas 90% of the time but after my issue with the Lightning/SD card reader and a few other glitchy actions I am DFU’ing my IPP and iPhone 8+ tonight and going back to 11.4.1. If I were not going to Italy for a week soon I would be 50/50 but with that I am tapping out of this beta.

I had it on my 8+ yesterday and this morning, but my battery was taking a big hit. Going out of the area for a few days and didn't want to chance having battery drain while out and about.

It's probably the least changed iOS I've ever used. Not a complaint, just not worth it for me to run a beta.

I have an iPhone X and I'm running the latest PB beta and it's running smooth for me. Battery has taken a hit, but nothing significant. No major bugs from my end. Actually seems to work faster and smoother than iOS 11.

Basically this. iOS 12 is almost like iOS 11 so for me its not worth it on my main phone and take a chance to mess up things I use the most.

But it worth it on my iPads just for the new iPhone X gestures. I would say go for it on your secondary device, but if you need and relies to your phone a lot like most people do, don't waste your time with betas and just wait for the final release. Its just a little more than a month away now.

By saying that the PBs are pretty safe you are saying that the betas in general are pretty safe. PB builds are the same as the developer builds.

I've been running the Public Beta on my iPP 10.5 since it was released and other than a few small GUI issues it's been fantastic. I love the new gestures in the iPad.

Now maybe because I didn't run the first few betas but I first installed PB3 on my iPhone X and it's been fantastic. I've really had no major issues on my X. But what's impressive is the speed of PB4. Both my iPP and X seem so much faster. Switching apps, opening new apps, etc. It just flies. I didn't really notice I before.

If I were not going to Italy, and relying heavily on my IPP and iPhone for image editing/import, I would likely stay on the PB.

if you are asking these questions then the answer is no. you should never install a beta
