My dad droped his 4 recently so im looking for an iphone except this time it will be a 4s. Now im looking at craiglist and the lowest price is like 400. Is the 4s a big enough upgrade to buy a 400 dollar 4s?

Have you looked into getting it repaired instead? My daughter cracked the front glass on a 4s, which is more expensive to repair than the 4, and we had the front glass and LCD replaced for around $100. It looks as good as new.

There are a number of places, but this os the one we used:

The 4s is a great phone - the camera is a bit better than the 4, and there is more memory as well. Siri is nice too. Not sure I would pay $400 though.

How close are you to being eligible for a $199 iPhone 5?

It's certainly better than the 4. Obviously the difference in 4 to 4s isn't as great as 4s to 5. If I was already dropping $400, I'd just pony up and get the 5. That or I'd make do with an older iPhone until I was upgrade eligible.

    Yes.

    Diversity antenna for reception.
    8mp camera is awesome+panorama
Dual core CortexA9 from single core CortexA8

    And ATT? 3G 3-5mbps upgrade to 4G 7-10mbps. Verizon/Sprint no speed boost.

Wrong 4 to 4s is huge compared to 4s to 5.

    CPU
4-4S. Single core CortexA8 to Dual core CortexA9. Gaining multithreading from single thread architecture jump is massive.
4S-5 is just one dual core to a another, substantial, but mush less.

    Camera
    4-4S. Big, 720p to 1080p video. 5 lens system. Panorama. 5MP to 8MP.
    5. Lens cover with more scratch resistance and purple light halos

    Display
    4/4S/5 All retina
    5 taller and less ergonomic

    Cellular.
    4: single antenna, 3-5mbps 3G
4S: dual diversity dynamic antenna system 8-19mbps 4G
5: dual diversity dynamic antenna system 40-60mbps LTE
The 4 already has double basic home DSL bandwidth, 4S even more. Who needs that much on a mobile, really? Silly overkill.

    Dock connector
5: Lightning. Losses compatibility with many accessories and all your previous charging cables. Can be hard to bum a quick charge.

    Built quality
4/4S strong stainless steel frame, gorilla glass type outer
5 soft aluminum with easy wearing anodization

    4-4S Siri, 3D maps, turn-by-turn
    4S-5 nothing else.

Take it from a 5 owner who's girlfriend and coworkers have 4S. 4S to 5 is piddly upgrade.

Not more memory. Both A4 and A5 SoC have 512MB RAM.
And whatever storage option you choose.

You could buy a subsidy free Verizon iPhone 5. They come with the sim already unlocked.

    $400 for a 4S.. that's a tough one. You can get a new 4S on contract for $99 and a new 5 for $199.

Either way, a 4S will last you years, while the 4 is kinda on it's way out.

Get the verizon version OR the ATT version. The ATT version can be unlocked on eBay (permanent, from Apple, Factory unlocked) for $3. Just did it last night.

    Get the 5.
